My System: Technomate TM1000ci Kathrein UFS 910 si | I was given one if these as a gift. Pros: HDMI. Great HD picture quality. Good SD picture quality. Software can be patched. FTP server. Telnet. PVR using an external USB HD. Cons: Diseqc 1.0 only. Channel changing is slow. Remote control doesn't respond as well as it should. Support isn't great, USALs/GotoX support has been rumored but still hasn't appeared. Can't receive ITV HD. No support for DVB subtitles. Firmware updates appear very infrequently. Limited language support e.g. no Russian (this has lead to mgcamd support being withdrawn)

My System: Technomate TM1000ci Kathrein UFS 910 si | I'd say that the Technomate has the slight edge in SD picture quality, but since I started using the component output on the Kathrein it's very similar. HDMI looks washed out on my TV, not quite sure why. Technomate channel changing is lightning fast compared to the Kathrein.

My System: Technomate TM1000ci Kathrein UFS 910 si | Erm... I wouldn't have bought this receiver. It doesn't support USALs which means I can't sell my Technomate. The problem with the Kathrein is that whilst the hardware is pretty good, it's let down by poor software. If I were to buy and HD receiver right now I think I'd go for a Technomate 6900. Mainly because it supports USALs and would allow me to replace 3 boxes (Kathrein for HD, Technomate for SD and a Humax for Freeview) with just one. At the moment I'm happy enough with the Kathrein. It allows me to record HD content and store it on my networked HDs.
