Hi

I'm a newbie to this board and generally a newbie to the world of satellite cams/cards/programmers/files & keys.

My ultimate aim is to learn how to get as many encrypted channels as possible for free but I'm also interested in the technology involved.

My understanding is basically limited to that I know I need a universal CAM such as the Magic, a programmer and smart cards.

I don't have a dish or receiver (yet

) and am doing this research on behalf of a slightly less technical minded friend.

I have read the info on :

and was wondering if you have any advice/links for newbies.

I'm particularly confused regarding the importance of keys & hex files and generally the files that the smartcard must be programmed with.
