Hello vma,

Thank you for sharing the information with us.
Very nice pictures and website. Might be worth considering your own website instead of Geocities since paid hosting is quite cheap these days and with SEO (Search Engine Optimization), your website can be in Google in a very short time.
I noticed that there are webpages in three languages (English, Potuguese and German).
If you have the time, try to translate all pages to those three languages.

Thanks for the feedback.

I am actually looking for cheap/free webhosters and even just registered at one. I don't want to spend money on that right now, as it is just a hobby - I don't make a living out of satellite TV reception.

The long-time goal is to update the site with a lot of other stuff I have writen, done, etc. and certainly translate it to those three languages (which I happen to speak).

The major problem with Geocities is the annoying right banner and the fact that the site is already eating up 88% of the allowed diskspace, which means that I will really need to move it.

On a side-note: I did NOT want to start advertising my site on this board. I really would like to start posting here regularly, as it seems that there are at least some "sat freaks" on this board. This was just an easier way to present myself to you guy's and that was how the website was born anyway: instead of uploading the same pictures and description to several forum's, each time I want to present myself, I figured it would be easier to do it this way.

Hope that clears any doubt!

Cheers,
vma

As I said before, web hosting is quite cheap these days and with your professional work it is really important to have your own website, without all the advertising with the free hosting which can downgrade your own work.
Also you will have better authoring tools to work with.
So in my humble opinion, it is worth spending few dollars a month on this.
The most important part is to decide on a domain name and then to check that such a domain is not already taken, and the sooner you register it, bthe better.
Even if it isn't, then you might get into copyrights problems if a well known company has already used up that domain and they would not accept the fact that you have chosen the same domain without any thought of riding on their wave, so to speak.
Note: By domain I mean the website name without the extension, although strictly speaking a domain includes the extension.
For Ex. Microsoft and it's domain is microsoft.com

Another tip, is to register your domain YOURSELF, otherwise you will never have full control on it.
Don't be tempted to host with a web that gives you free domain registration, as you will be at their mercy for some time.

Good Luck

Interesting site vma,

Thanks for sharing.

Man, you have got a lot of receivers haven't you.

I like the spectrum plots. Is usual to have the frequency on the vertical axis? All the spectrum analaysers I have used have it on the horizontal axis.

Interesting information on jtag as well.

I also like the bit with the tin-foil 'dish'. As it's in German, I didn't read it, so did you actually pick anything up on it?
Like the LEGO LNB arm

Hi,

I started with satellite TV some 15 years ago and got more and more receivers and equipment with time. I also do translations of manuals and firmware, so that was another way I got some receivers. I did not spend that much money on them: some where given for translastions, some where purchased cheap on Ebay and some where purchased for hard earned cash...

To tell you the truth, I never saw any site showing satellite spectrum images, so that's why I posted mine. I want to update that information for the remaining satellites I am receiving and also upload 4 pictures for each satellite - one for each band. The images right now show the most characteristic image for each satellite (in my opinium). The analyzer is obviously capable of showing all 4 bands.

The aluminum foil dish did work nice - better than expected. I wanted to find out if it is indeed possible to make a dish the McGyver style... The reception was good enough for analog and digital channels on Astra and Hotbird. The Lego support was a dirty construction just to avoid the foil flipping off with the wind.

I want to translate that to english at some point in time.

Cheers,
vma

Due to bandwith problems and lack of webspace at Geocities, I changed to a new host: _http://satellite.freehoxt.com

Also, I updated the aluminum foil article to english!

vma

Hi vma,
The new site looks good.
It would be better to have all the pictures with the same width size, and centered in the page.
Keep up the good work

Hi,

New update: I released my first alpha release of a Satlook Digital NIT simulator on my website.

Beware that it does do not much right now...

Looking forward for some constructive feedback.

Cheers,
vma

Hi vma,

Your website is down again.

Read this thread. It might help you if and when you decide to pay for hosting.

Recommend a good, cheap domain reg company

I checked it right now and it works fine:

_http://satellite.freehoxt.com

I think they provide a very good service - being free...

I cannot afford having more fixed costs right now.

Cheers,
vma

This page
_http://satellite.freehoxt.com/crazy/dazed1970.htm
Loads very slowly which is annoying.
Try to reduce the images size and in addition have all the images with the same width size and they mustn't be larger than the monitor width in 800x600 res. I use 400 pixels width on all images.
Best to use thumbnails so that only one image will load at a time.
Also, there should be a left margin. At the moment the text on all pages starts at the far left without a margin.
Which authoring tools are you using for the pages design?

That is a very old page a made and just maintained. It does need some updating and eventually separation of the contents (my old equipment vs. crazy stuff).

I use Frontpage and a standard text editor.

Have you tried the simulator? That will be my #1 priority for my free time...

Cheers,
vma

I also use FrontPage 2003, but you don't seem to use it correctly.
Try to redesign all pages using tables, cells and navigation buttons.
