Update Viacess CAM with CAS Interface

Is it possible to use my CAS3+ interface to update a RedCam Viacess module ?

The file name is APVA_V108003.out and is this Viaccess 1.0 V484 v1.08.003

(My Laptop doesnt work to update thrue pcmia.. wrong model, Dell)
(Should be "scm dvb module" and not "mtd-0002" in my case)

Othervise i have to find another laptop......

I think that it is possible to update the CAM via satellite.
I remember that I did that sometime ago by leaving it on a certain channel and it worked great.

Upgrade via Hotbird doesnt work anymore, i havent test but read it on forum.
So only way i think is to find a laptop witch support scm module.

Sorry Mygg@n that it didn't work for you. I hope that I didn't mislead you with any wrong information.
If the satellite upgrade is out of the question, then I will have the same problem when a new upgrade is needed in the future.
Which version do you have now and why do you need to upgrade it?
It is very risky to upgrade CAMS in case something goes wrong.
I burnt a CAM few years ago and since then I am very careful not to upgrade unless it absolutely necessary or if the upgrade method is foolproof.
Back to your original problem with the laptop, I think that you need a Windows 98 O/S (this is what lefdata recommended in 2006, but perhaps the file that you mentioned in your first post is not the same as they had back then)

No problem, its so easy to adjust my antenna, took 5 minutes to move to Hotbird.
I have read on some forum that the upgrade service is no longer working and after now testing i can confirm that.

I upgrade this cam a long time ago to 4.83 with an old toshiba laptop, but i sold it. So for upgrade to 4.84 i have downloaded some files and it should work on windows XP and 2000 but the pcmcia chip in computer must recognize cam as "scm dvb module" and not "mtd-0002" when its ask for drivers.
In the readme file for the software its use a pccard adapter but it should work with this laptops directly, samsung, toshiba and some asus and maybe others.
Maybe it can work with pcmcia to pci adapter but then i have to buy that.
I need this version for the Television here in Sweden called Boxer.

(new cam cost 10 dollar here but its more fun to get this old one working.....)

My System: 120cm Pointing to Viasat (Got LT legal card) 80 with Monobloc on Astra nand Hotbird Topfield TF 5000 CI

Hello Mygg@n

Did you progress on your problem? I have exactly the same problem as you. I have an old red CAM (V483) I got in 2003 when I was working in Norway to get Viasat channels.

I have now a legal Viasat card and want to use it in my Topfield 5000 CI.

I also confirm that the update from hotbird doesn't work.

I have tryed to update on a Toshiba laptop.

What is the CAM adapter and where can I get one.

EDIT: I got the update program from here _http://www.smardtv.com/index.php?page=support&rubrique=consumer&productid =59&product_title=Viaccess

My System: DM800HD PVR DM500-S

I updated 2 of my Viaccess Redcams in the PCMCIA slot
of my old laptop (a HP/Compaq).
Now they are Viaccess Red label v.484

@jmnil
A Viaccess module would not work with your card.
Its not possible to update your module to the new system
that they use.

Thank you for your warning ... that just came 1 day too late

I didn't realized that Viasat switch to NDS encryption and I bought a PCI-PCMCIA card that I installed on my desktop. I performed easely and quickly the CAM update and I have now a nice but useless Viaccess CAM

Now I just need to buy a NDS Videoguard CAM.
