HELP -Hoover Handle Lock Release

I have got a Hoover Dust Manager Cyclonic cleaner and I have messed up the Handle Lock Release, the part were you stick your foot to release the handle when you start hoovering. (See pictures below or ask the wife)

Does anyone know how to fit the handle lock release together, with a picture if possible because I'm knacked as the handle will not catch on the catches and keeps falling over.

This type of handle lock release is very common on Hoovers, and I know it seems very easy but I just can't seem to get it.

Have you tried a hammer?

I don't know much about toy vacuums, but I guess the spring that holds the latch in place has come loose, so you might need to open it up and us a bit of Areldite to repair it if possible, or just take it to a vac repair shop and see if they have anything you can part-ex it with...

Sounds like there is a clip that has come off inside the cover
There is (on the photos) some sign claiming 'important'. Was it ?

If it falls over then at least you can work with it to hoover up the dirt. Can you not prop it up in a cupboard when not in use ?

In the olden days, Hoovers had a spring loaded plate inside the cover which pressed against the edge of a metal disk which was attached to the handle and turned with it. The disk had 2 notches so that it worked like a ratchet so it allowed the handle to swing to the upright position but you had to move the plate down (by pressing the pedal) in order to swing the handle down. Over time the corners wear off the notches and does what yours is doing.

I did that and still the same, I think I'll cheat a bit and take it to that vacuum repair shop.
Sod's law that the electrical shop that could have fixed this is only across the road, but it shut down last week.
