Satellite novice

I've just installed a 2.1m dish above my flat in Prague and now need to obtain a digibox (have one on loan for now and BBC works a treat).
Viewing cards - plenty on Ebay , are they worth buying? do they have a finite life or will they keep on decoding forever?
Any recommendations on what boxes to go for? Rolf's comment below rather worries as I thought I knew what I was looking for but now I have my doubts...

Any help or advice would be gratefully received, thanks.

Viewing cards can be a bit "dodgy" if purchased from a unknown source, as per Rolf's post ie. the scam by ebayer's.

The present P2 card should last a few years unless the encryption is compromised.

The change over of 7 million card is a logistical nightmare, not to mention the cost's involved!
