My System: 'Fortec Star Passion' (& a dead SL65) One of them big Woks on the outside, and a thingy that moves it about a bit.
Exclamation Booting NTL Telly

NTL!

Now I've got the Fortec Star Passion, and soon the Diablo / Cas3+,
will I be able to boot NTL. What will I miss? Will I still get 4 and 5?
Men & Motors?
Reality TV?
Etc.

What should I do?
Give them the chop?

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

You should be able to get the terrestrial channels through a normal aerial, if you are in a digital reception area, then it gives you 30 channels, plus whatever you can get from your satellite dish.

Men and Motors is a UK channel, so you won't get that elsewehere.

Cheers Rolfw

Does that mean I have to keep that old aerial?
Won't 4&5 ever be transmitted via satellite?

The 30 channels you refer to? Freeview?

Also when I buy a HDTV, it will have freeview, but I will need an aerial for this, Yes?

Are there freeview channels worth having that are not (or not likely to be) on Satallite?

Yes, always a good idea to keep the aerial, particularly if you have a /tv with a Freeview tuner.

Channel 4 will probably be FTA by Summer, but no plans as far as I know for Channel 5.

My System: Mostly gathering dust cos there's no room for dishes here... :(

The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken!

Erm, NTL was renamed to VirginMedia last year...

If you want C4 & 5 just get a 2nd hand sky box and a freesat card, you'll need a seperate dish for it as sky boxes are a pain when not kept on 28e, but it'll give you those channels plus a few others if your freeview signal's a tad rubbish. Otherwise, as Rolfw says, just get a Freeview box, you get a nice selection of channels these days, including Dave, so compared to Freesatfromsky it's a better option...

Thank you

I am trying to cut down the number of boxes under my telly. (and remote controls) Will probably stick with the aerial.

I know what you mean, I only currently have a Freeview box at the moment (the wind keeps blowing my dish apart!!!), so I only use 1 remote, as my TV didn't have one (slavage job), but at most I only have about 3 or 4, two are proper satellite boxes (one digital, one analogue) and the other one is a sky remote for my freesat box, for anything else I actually get up and push buttons...
