Discuss your wife's objections to the fifth dish going up or your concern that there's far too little violence on the box these days. You can also introduce yourself here or just chat about anything. Remember, no keys or files allowed.

Hello Everyone, I want to purchase a motorised satellite system with the hope of picking up Sports/Films/XXX all the usual. The problem I've got is knowing which system to buy and what size dish I will need. I have seen an Octagon 518 system with 1m Dish on Ebay for £209. Is this going to enable me to find the channels I need? Also will I have to buy lots of cards or is there alot available for free. Thanks in advance for help.

I will leave the motorized system response to the more experienced members and mods. But there are a lot of threads and posts regarding this for self help read.
As for the smartcards, we have in the forum a whole section

Regarding the XXX, please read this thread:
Adult Channels Quality on Hot Bird
My recommendation is to buy a smartcard which is 24/7 and with the best bitrate so that you will always have something on to watch and if you get anything else then consider it as a bonus.
For films, I would recommend to buy Canal Sat (France) on Astra 19.2E smartcard (nice price at the moment from a certain website).
Sports? I gather that DigitALB is quite popular.

Yes, a 1m dish should give you enough choice of satellites to choose from.

Most of the packages available you need to subscribe to, though there is a very limited number that you can obtain with alternative software on the receiver. To helf future proof your purchase a little, it would be advisable to purchase one that has a slot for a smart card and a CAM slot.

I think some of the Octagon receivers can also read a Sky UK card. The Technomate receivers, the TM5400CI+for example are quite popular.
