Just curious to know how most installers go about their job when working at heights? Resaon for the post is that on my street alone most dishes are installed just above the bottom window on a terrace house or similar...when i was an installer i was running up roof's on pretty much every job and it did my head in! As i was told by pretty much everybody companies/customers that "If you can mate...the dish must go on the chimney stack". Do most installers now go for the easy option or is it up to the customer where the dish must go? To be honest i would bottle out of installing anything on a chimney stack or at such height...which made me think i must not be in the right job ect? Im not an installer anymore due to the above reason as i thought i would come unstuck in the end and lost a bit of confidence ect but i am still enthusiastic about satellite installation which makes it frustrating.

My System: Mostly gathering dust cos I'm a lazy git. Porty dish face blew off the mount, not too pleased... The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken! | These days, it's all about health and safety, insurance, and the fact that dishes can pull down a chimney stack in high winds and potentially cause injury or even death to those inside the house. You should only install a dish on a chimney if it's in good condition and is the only place the dish can go to receive the satellite signals, otherwise site it elsewhere... ![]() So basically, do the opposite of what you were told, if possible, install it anywhere but the chimney...

| ditto, though to confirm the point with any customer that might insist, I leave the cat ladders at home. Then they can't force me.

My System: Sky HD, TM6800HD, Manhattan Plaza ST550 and TM1500 CI+. 1.0m dish and 36v motor, Panasonic DVD HDD recorder and Panasonic video/DVD recorder. Sony G800 HD TV stand/surround system + Sony KDL40W2000. Infinity USB, Elvis, CAS1, CAS2. | My dish is on A chimney but not the highest one. I've had a dish of some sort on it for over 20 years and although the external flu was removed when the property was extended, the chimney had to stay. That's a 1m job but I have a Sky dish as well on a flat roof.

| Possibly, but to install one dish on a chimney takes as long as two on the wall, so the amount of work isn't actually diminished. And I can get home earlier.

My System: None | Well that settles it for me...if i ever continue to do installs in the future (which i hope to do) i wont do any roof work or the like, regardless of what people think! I will leave it to somebody else.. To me its not worth the risk clambering around at silly heights on unstable roof's just to install equipment. Thanks for the input!
