Since Piers used to be employed on the Suns books, I really despair that anybody took 'headline news' by any of the tabloids on the situation over in Iraq seriously.

I don't think the 'generalisation' of the tabloids performance should detract from the fact that Morgan is a crass idiot and that's not libellous because he proved it this week. I knew it a long time ago.

Tabloids only exist because people buy them each day.

Profit margins are improved by increasing the curculation which is done in one of two ways
1) Sensationalising the reports to make the reader feel the paper has something that others dont
2)increasing the ease at which the text can be read, usually at the expense of accuracy in the reports.

Money knows no class, and the Mirror and others capitalise on the envelope of lower echelon readers that will gladly part with 30p each day for 30 odd pages of pap.

Doesn't any service or item which relies on profit to continue in the market?

I did mean the (unhealthy) competition between tabloids, but since you ask

Charities - (real ones)
The US Space Program
The European Space Porgramme
restoration of a classic jalopy/motorcycle
R Bransons version of the National Lottery
housecleaning, decorating, renovation
roadracing
and really anything most people do outside work - passtimes, hobbies etc.
