You may well be right CH ...but sometimes a purpose made device thats simple and reusable is a plus ..

I remember having to bind all my f connectors with amalgamating tape in the past ...then I discovered gel filled f clip covers.
A positive bonus ..if like me ..you're always swapping lnbs.

maybe these things just take a while to catch on...

I run some of my cables under guttering - in the garden. Some lengths I found in a skip

My wife found me in a skip (only once, I've managed to avoid her since)......

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

Are there any problems with running it over the roof???,

I bet roofers curse this type of cable run

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Well yes - apart from the unsightliness of it, cabling laid across eg Concrete Pantiles without the benefit of being secured in several places, can, will and does abrade.

That leads to reduced life, either by causing electrical discontinuity or by allowing the ingress of water through damaged outer insulation. Capillary action then takes over and can creep very quickly along the cable, often as far as the Receiver input.

The poor practice of slinging cables willy-nilly over roofs is something that a competent Installer will avoid.

Sky, however, along with their sub-contractors, appear to have a time led imperative that precludes thought and care being brought to bear. And for nonsensical reasons (although they wrongly blame Health & Safety requirements) they don't like internal cable runs through roof spaces.
