Mobile Battery Explosion

This was in the local news yesterday.
A woman had her Nokia mobile under charge, when all of a sudden the battery exploded.
Luckily her little baby wasn't in the room when this happened, as she had the charger right next to where his head is usually positioned.
Conclusion:
Never use a charger near your bedside at night.
Try to do the charging under supervision and when people are awake.

I wouldn't have a mobile phone anywhere near a baby's head in the first place. I dont know if this is scientifically sound, but I cant imagine it would be healthy.

People do stupid things without thinking of the consequences.
You should see how many women use their mobiles when their baby is sitting right next to her in the sitting room or during the daily stroll of the baby pram.

Well I know of a person who has removed all of the Wifi from his house, because he was concerned about the affect on the new baby, he has run CAT5 everywhere instead. However, when the baby can't sleep, he puts his iphone on the baby's pillow and plays recorded whale music to lull him off to sleep. . . . . . . . Pillock.

My System: Covering 30W-105.5E range, two motors, C and Ku band. Various receivers/cards/cams/etc.

I bet she was using non-original battery. Btw, it's practically impossible to "explode" phone battery, even if overheating it in owen. It will just become big, make "pufffff" noise and release bad odour. The sound will be far far less, than any smallest firecracker available. Of course, temperature of battery will rise, even may to that point, that it will put surrounding items on fire. Also note, lithium inside batteries, once ignited, will not go off, when using water on it. You need C02 based fire extinguisher at least.

You may be right, but recently a well known laptop manufacturer had to recal a batch of thier products because there were confirmed reports of exploding/igniting batteries.

Yes, I also saw that video on youtube. If you take closer look, there's no "explosion", it just catches fire.

There was a case last year when a Chinese was killed and they used the term "explosion" to describe the incident.
What other term would you use?
