Chasing Midnight New Years Eve 2008

Well its getting towards December and its been asked if we are doing this again this year..

Well heres the answer - yes we are

We had loads of fun last year and celebrated about a dozen New Years.

If anyone wants to join in all you need is a satellite receiver and a dish pointing at 13E for preference, or 19E/28E which will allow you to join in to some degree although you will miss a lot of the more exotic stuff.

Edit - made this thread a temporary sticky so its easy to find

Tell me Anglosat, is it shown on N Y Eve, I can not recall,SWMBO
cant wait, be it in Colour,in B&W, In German or English, this must be the most watched programme in Germany, and made in the 1960s.
Teleboy will give me the times and German sat channels in two weeks.

You must be referring to Dinner For One cp. We will flag it up during the fun so anyone interested has a chance to see it.

And of course Dinner Fur Brodt on Kika.

Lets see - all times are UK times - the channels are from last year and are fta on satellite unless mentioned:

1100 - Auckland - Sky News or Al Jazeera
1300 - Sydney - Sky News
1400 - Vladivostok - Russia Today
1500 - temple in Japan - JSTV1 although this year will probably use NHK World / Arirang Korea is also in this slot
1600 - China - CCTV4 or CCTV9
1700 - Thailand - Thai Global TV or Vietnam VTV4
1800 - Kazakhstan - Caspionet
1830 - India - Amrita TV or NDTV (scrambled)
1900 - Uzbekistan - Uzbek TV
After this more channels become available so the group starts breaking up and watching various things
2000 - Georgia - Adjara TV / Armenia - C1 / Azerbaijan - Lider TV or Az 1
2100 - Moscow - one of the main Russian channels
2200 - Albania - Als&t, Turkey - TRT International, Romania - TVRi, Greece - ERT, etc
2300 - Germany - ARD, Nigeria - AIT International or Loveworld
0000 - Portugal - RTPi

later into the night some of the American celebrations are on Fox News (scrambled), CNN, Sky News etc

We may pick up some new channels this year - K+ is one of the ex-Soviet Republics on +6 which might be worth a look to see if they carry anything.. And theres at least one more new one which Ive forgotten as well

Im planning on installing a second 13E system for new years eve this year - I think a second box will make it easier to try and keep track of everything!

The whole point of this is to use easily accessible fta satellite channels so everyone can take part. DR1 & NRK are scrambled on the Nordic beam of Sirius 4 both of which removes them from consideration as far as Im concerned. If anyone wants to watch them Id be delighted to see the screen shots or description of whats happening, but for most folks they are not viable.

As for the channels around GMT +1 +2 +3 etc theres dozens to choose from - I just chose a representative sample of countries on the list above. Once we get a choice of countries Id like folk to choose different channels and give us a rundown of whats happening - with pictures if possible - at midnight.

As for the Irania question - I think it was IRIB 2 last year - Id forgotten that one to be honest.
