Why are people so aggressive when it comes to dishes?

Discuss your wife's objections to the fifth dish going up or your concern that there's far too little violence on the box these days. You can also introduce yourself here or just chat about anything. Remember, no keys or files allowed.

My System: DM 600-S, AB IPBox 9000HD, Moteck SG2100, Fracarro Penta 85 dish, + some puters

Thankfully the complaining culture hasnt reached this part of the world (at least not yet).

I'd say I could easily stick a 2M dish in the front garden without hearing any complaints, despite the fact that Penta 85 is pushing it as regards planning laws.

Some might think it an eye sore, but it would be your eyesore rather than thiers. So that would be acceptable.

My System: Mostly gathering dust cos there's no room for dishes here... :(

The Sleepy Hollow pollracle has spoken!

I think it's just snobbery, here in the UK, to a lot of (thick) people, all dishes = sky, and if you have sky, you must be a football fan with sky sports, and hence a football hooligan, and nobody likes a hooligan...

Still, they're uneducated grumpy people who think they can rule other people's lives (hmm, sounds like the description for a politician!!), so they will grump and gripe about something they haven't got...

But still, if it's on your property (rented or owned), then you have the right to access satellite broadcasts, no matter what grumpy Mrs. Wiggins across the street says...

I wonder if women dislike dishes because they think of it as a huge concave tit, instead of the usual convex type that they are stuck with all their lives. And as men like dishes, then it must be for that reason.
Perhaps if satellites can be received with a shape that reminds them of a phallic symbol, then they would like it and even want them installed all over the house.
Put this in the balcony and see your lady neighbor reaction.

There was the idea of the Satellite Sausage, basically a giant feedhorn that you pointed directly at the satelite, paint it a skin colour and add a couple of footballs at the base of the antenna and there you go...

As far as I'm aware, as long as it is not "Permanent", only the Law of Nuisance applies.

Discuss "Permanent"

I had one like that today

We installed an IRS rig last week to a property and all went well, perfect position with good levels

Today the infrastructure team went in to do the cabling and the Local Junkie smackhead has decided he doesn't like the dish being 3m away from his fromt window as he can see it when he sits in a certain position in his living room

We now have to move the whole bloody lot to a position which will no doubt cause more problems than evecting the aforementioned scumbag

The one thing you can guarentee is that the second there are any problems with the system, he'll be the first one to complain

It makes my blood boil it really does.

My System: andrews dish - jaeger 1224 motor, vantage x221tsci, skystar 2, diablo v2.3, cyfra+

also a lot of people think that with the dish up your up to no good or watching pron, as people believe that only sky is satellite tv which is wrong.

i once mentioned to a work colleague that i could watch 3pm football and he said that i was viewing sky ireland which was illegal i just laughed.

i wasn't aware that viewing other channels with an official card was breaking the law for home use.

i've had no such problems with neighbours about dishes they don't care, a lot of people have other things to worry about.

i wonder if other people are just jealous.

True, my neighbour came home the other day when i got home at the same time and he had flowers with him to give his wife as they were celebrating something.

I said nice flowers you have bought, yes it's for my wife, i have to be nice on these special moments to her.

Then he said, but you got a satellite dish so you have porn you can watch.

In Israel we have sunny weather almost all year round and you can see on roof tops and on the ground those hideous solar water heating systems, consisting of a cylindrical water container and collectors with glass cover installed at an angle directly at the sun.
I really hate to see them, even though I am for using other energy resources, as they are an eye sour and what makes it worse is that the water pipes covered with black insulation run on the building sides and then into the specific apartments.
Now imagine that the UK have sunny climate as well, and people start to use such systems, how do you think that your neighbors would react if you install them on your roof top or in the garden?
Would they accept them or complain just like with dishes?
How about a wind electricity generator?

Solar panels are becoming more common in UK but they're usually fitted flat to the roof and then piped internally. The DIY stores have started selling wind gennies but they expensive for the power the create.....anything bigger and people complain

What about the water container, is it visible on roof top or installed inside the house?
How would the neighbors react if you install such systems?
