a life, without a dish, how long you can live without satellite dx?

Hello!
today,i ask my self, how long is it posible, for us satellite freaks,to live without a dish!

when i go to holiday,i miss the daily internet input, and scanning satellites maybe for 2 weeks, then i think,no i dont need this realy, but, when i see a telvision,or a dish, the fever comes back in the same second!

after one month then, and more without television,i recogneized in my holiday ,that is also posible,to live only with a small radio short wave receiver, and a mobilphone, but in the meantime,i recogneized, that i cant live withouth electronics, maybe because of the reason ,that our hobby is very exititing,.and then we can never stop thinking about it!

also,it is very difficult to find other hobbys, instead of satellite hobby,so now iam waiting your reports, also the internet surfing, and the dependance,of the internet/and bulletin boards ,i think is a main reason, that we cant swtich off our minds to thinking in our hobby!
iam now online since 12 years, and, typing around,in aproximently 30 diffrent boards, like rolf w. around 30000.post,i dont know,is this "normal" or not,but i think, intil so long it makes me happy, when i can help other people, then it could be bad!

Hello Turok,
There is just one word to describe this thing: It is called addiction.
To overcome it, you must have a strong will and an alternative.
Personally, I believe I have a strong will to stop doing anything that becomes an addiction.
Only few years ago, I drank about eight large cups of strong coffee a day.
Then one day I felt very bad and after consulting my doctor, it turned out that I have high blood pressure and that it would help to stop drinking any stimulants.
On that same day, I decided I am going to stop drinking coffee, and over the past three years I never touched the stuff (sounds like an alcoholic talking).
If you have a lot of free time, for example you don't work for your living, then you really need to fill the time otherwise you would go crazy.
To cut down on the hobby and internet, one should look for alternative things to do.
I used to read a lot of books, but over the past years, TV watching and satellite hobby and the damn internet has taken up all of my free time and I must confess that, apart from reading technical books, I haven't read any novel for many years. I am really ashamed of this, as I enjoyed reading very much in the past.
Bottom line (at least for me): Yes I can stop this hobby if I want to.
The alternative would be to start reading books (history, philosophy, novels, learning foreign languages, etc.) and start by giving away my TV.
Am I going to do it : Certaily NOT.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

The prospect of food over-rides any electronic addiction for me!

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

LOL, yes, but can be pretty sad, I notice aerials as well, which are even less interesting to the man in the street.

I will miss it, because from September I'm moving to Riga (the capital of Latvia), will go to University. On home I will be propably 3-4 times a month... This sucks...
All my hobbies will be gone at that time, satellite and radio (analogue, with aerial on my house's roof)..

My System: None at the moment

I get depressed when i can't play with my dishes like last location i could not install any dish and i freaked out, now i moved so i can have my dishes and i am calm.

Also i have tried to find alternative hobbies but it's difficult as i love dishes, don't know what it is, but i'm addicted.

Yeah i was in the same situation for a while and when you go out and see other dishes you feel sad you can't have one and stuck with boring cable-tv.
