Winter Time in Sunny Israel

Winter time will start in sunny Israel on 27th September at 02:00 AM and the clocks will move back by one hour to 01:00 AM.
This ridiculous decision means that we will be losing one hour of daylight, for at least one month before other counties in Europe move their clocks to winter time.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Gosh that is early!

We have perennial arguments over here about Time Zones too: Not just what Zone we should be on and end throughout the UK, but also about whether we need to have different arrangements for those areas that are significantly further North.

At least you are at a moderate Latitude and can employ a single zone.

Since when was Israel in Europe? Come to think of it why is it allowed in the Eurovision Song Contest? Why isn't it in the Asian song contest (Middle East edition)?

Firstly this is completely off topic

As regards many things it is classed as Europe but yes you are correct it is not in the EU.

Regarding your second point about the Asian song contest (Middle East edition) as some of the nations competing in that competition have called for the complete destruction of Israel I would have thought the answer was obvious.

Perhaps this topic had better be closed since it can only become political from here on in discussion of which of course is not allowed on the forum

The answer why Israel can take part is simply that they are members of the European Broadcasting Union.

The complete list of non European full members is:

Algeria
Egypt
Jordan
Lebanon
Libya
Morrocco
Tunisia

all of whom are eligible to compete in the contest!

Most of these have never taken part (yet!)

Lebanon was supposed to debut in 2005 but withdrew as they refused to show the Israeli entry and were refused permission to run adverts in that slot.....

Morocco (spelt right this time!) took part once in 1980

Tunisia were due to take part in 1977 but withdrew for unspecified reasons (but probably to do with the Israel situation)

Qatar look like the newest country to be joining the ESC & hope to be debuting in the next couple of years
