My System: Dreambox 7020 with 120 gig hard-drive disk - running a motorised dish DM800 +DM600 +DM500 although only usually the 7020 and 800 are both on.

There is a term used for many people in the UK

NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard)

I think that's what seems to be happening in the cases you mention. Most wouldn't mind, so long as its not their direct neighbours who have it.

I must admit I have had my fair share of problem neighbours wanting information on the installation that is going ahead. Many of them are worried about the permission required (snigger) , and one had the audacity to claim his kids could be affected by the radiation (bigger snigger).

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

Hi!
dont forget that one, with the vampire teeth, the bite,in our cable, when it late at night

other questions!

is the reglimentation, and limitation of allowed this size a "eu law"

are can every country say about that, what the want, and can make there own laws?

in germany, they have a lot of problems installing big dishes espasaly in rentend houses, also in swtizerland, your nabour can go,to the major of the village, and say,my nabour has installed a dish biger then 1,20m,thats not looks good in the landscape, and he have to remove it..thats sounds crazy but its true!

here,in my country ,i have no problems, people talking only bad,but on my ground i can decide what is allowed or not!

In the UK you are only allowed a 1m dish without planning permission

I myself have fallen fowl of this stupid law when i was ordered by my local council to remove my dish as it was 104cms high. According to the council i am only allowed a dish which is no more than 100cms on any one plane

Still at least i got the satisfaction of getting my own back on the twat who reported it. Its great when you have friends that work at the council

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

If it comes to the attention of the Local Authority (probably due to snitching), they will measure the maximum dimension and if it breaches Planning Regs, they can enforce its removal.

The rules are (apparently) designed to minimise "Visual Impact".

There is, more or less, the same Law for all.

The basic rules are much the same, but "special cases" exist ie Conservation Areas, National Parks etc where greater attention is paid to "Visual Impact".

Also, Landlords are perfectly entitled to impose more severe restrictions for Tenants.

And the Planning Permission requirement at least provides people with a means of making an individual case for being allowed to install a Dish which is larger than that allowed by prescription.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

No the law isn't different in every city, it's a national guideline, but can be modified for different circumstances in different areas.

What you have to consider, is that people requiring large dishes are a tiny minority and most people consider them an eyesore.
