The problem with Digital TV...

Discuss your wife's objections to the fifth dish going up or your concern that there's far too little violence on the box these days. You can also introduce yourself here or just chat about anything. Remember, no keys or files allowed.

The problem with Digital TV...

Something that bugs me about "Live" digital TV these days, brought up by today's events on the BBC for 11/11, it's the time it takes from getting from the source to the TVs, with analogue it could be about 10 to 15 seconds, but with Digital it could be anything from 30 seconds up to a minute (depending on how many stages of encoding and decoding it has to go through!!)!!!

So, when the 2 minute silence begins on TV, it actually began up to a minute ago, it's very confusing, and I'm sure will get things like New Year all mucked up too, cos it'll be a minute in before people start celebrating!!!

I think your car looks funny too......

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

It's all relative - let's face it, time itself is occasionally revised and things like the birth of Christ are probably in error by up to four years!

But it is annoying when forced to watch non-UK sourced Sport TV with a Radio soundtrack even from two Digital sources - If I were a gambling man, I'd make a million out of knowing when Ronaldo was about to fall over...............

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100

In a similar vein I remember a reply from the BBC a few months ago (Radio Times? Feedback??) regarding the accuracy of the six pips. It's only the analogue FM (and presumably LW) broadcasts that are correct - evrything else is delayed.

My System: Skymaster DCI9900 + PC/twinhan combination. 80cm dish. GBPVR with 2 DTTV cards +hauppauge Media MVP

I wouldn't worry about it.......the way they make TV progs these days with all the "Coming up on......," ; "Still to come......," etc., It's usually an anti climax when it eventually happens
