Letter in a bottle

The KEO satellite is scheduled to launch in 2006, on a 50,000 year round trip.
Before it leaves people are invited to write messages that will be sent on it, so upon its return whoever (and whatever) exists can read them.

Is this for real, or is it just an elaborate way of collecting names and email address?

Wonder if the forum calendar goes that far ahead.

If there is no language that has lasted 5,000 years to date, what chance of something being understood in year 52006 ?

Got to be a hoax, theyll ask for sponsors next, or a gallon of four star from budding applicants.
