Recommendations for GPS required please...

My brother-in-law is looking for a reasonably good GPS. One that is suitable for use in the car, but could also be used as a handheld.
Do any of you have any personal recommendations please?
There are quite a few GPS out there and I haven't a clue about what would be a good one or not.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

A lot of the guys are using their PDAs with slot in GPS modules, I think that TomTom is one of the popular ones, if you hunt around, the software can be quite cheap.

Sorry Rolf. My laptop just doesn't like it. I can get the page to come up, but it's blank. I leave it like that for a few minutes and nothing. I tried the sorter address and I get the medion homepage but can't navigate any further.
Strange.

What make and model was the unit? Maybe I could find another page.

This sometimes happens with links to 'secure' pages.

Denoted by the https in the address.

Try this and it will add the 's' for you (remove the '*' and add the 't')

I bought one from Halfords about 6 weeks ago for £399...... best thing i ever bought!!!

i got a Medion MDPNA100

the Satellite Navigation on it is brilliant, lets put it this way a friend of mine who does mobile mechanics and air conditioning, had a clarion system in his transit van that he paid £1600 for!!! he has now sold it on Ebay and bought one of these.

All that, and its a mobile PC too. With word and excel on it, when i link it to my phone through the IR port, i can send and receive emails and surf the net wherever i am

i can even visit this forum lol

oh and the games a bloody good too

picture of it http://www.halfords.com/opdImages/00005700.jpg

they do a cheaper one too for £299... dont really know what the difference is

The best one iv used is the tomtom go,
But like all GPS systems it falls down in the center of London.
only for a few seconds, but long enofh to miss the turn.

dont go off the software, on a PDA you can use Tom Tom or another navigation software.... you can sort that out after you get the hardware.

personally after trying tom tom i went back to medions own, i though it was better.
