To mp3 or not to mp3

Hi - I'm a new boy on the block ! I'm trying to get some real info on the new Sony HD3 mp3 player. I've read some official blurb but has anyone out there actually got one yet - if so - what's it like ? Or should I just get an ipod instead ?

Cheers.

My System: DreamBox 7000s - Nokia Freeview - Several GameBoys - DS Lite - ZX81 - SNES - N64 - Sega Saturn Dreamcast - PlayStation - Gamecube - PSP - iPod - iPhone - XBox - PS3 - Wii - No Life!

Welcome Boris

The iPod has become a 'statement' as well as a music player.

The 'must have' trendy item.

Check the formats that the Sony will store as some music formats are not compatable with some players. Sony tend to stick to their own formats.

The iPod has a wide range of accessories available and you can replace the battery - at last.

Bit of news...

Sony and Samsung have entered into a far-reaching technology licensing agreement that opens stacks of each company's intellectual properties to the other.

Talking iPod every time

I've had an iPod now for about 3 weeks, and it's brill!! i got the 20gb version and im not even close to filling it! its battery lasts for ages plus i got mine personalised for free by apple who engraved my name in the back which is cool. In my opinion, the iPod wins every time!

File Formats

Hi Gameboy,

Thanks for the reply - I here what you're saying about the ipod. Re file formats, I think I read somewhere that the Sony HD3 is ATRAC3 and mp3 compatible and can also read visual and data files. I don't know what ATRAC3 is (maybe you can help me on that one) but it sounds fairly comprehensive.

Cheers - Boris B

The iPod can double up as a storage device but i've not figured out how to do this yet...

Apple for the PC

To ’Nismo400R’
Thanks for the reply - I ’m afraid I have another quest ion to ask ! I know that
Apple make the ipod but can you use an ipod with a PC ? The new Sony HD3
will obviously work with a PC but will that work with a Mac ?
I suppose if the connect ion of both models is via USB 2 then it doesn’t really
mat ter what you hook it up to - right ?

Cheers - Boris B.

Yes, the iPod works with PC, you install the software on you pc first, then you connect the ipod which recieves information from your pc to determine its a pc and not a mac. Not too sure if the sony is supported by mac though??

Sony HD3 vs iPod

Hi Nismo400R - Thanks for that. I've just found this link which compares the two models. Might be of use to others in my position :

If anyone checks this link out - let me know what you think.

Cheers - Boris B.
