Police sell patrol cars on the net

German police are selling used patrol cars over the internet.

Police headquarters in the south German towns of Regensburg and Augsburg are offering cars via Ebay .

Many of the vehicles clock up more than 300,000 miles before they are taken out of duty.

Traditionally, they were auctioned off in public twice a year, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung reports.

But this led to lower prices, as only few people bothered showing up to the sales.

In internet auctions, the cars usually still fetch about 1,000 euros (£670).

And users are giving approval ratings of almost 100% to police as car sellers.

One buyer writes on the website: "Thanks, the car's already in Lithuania."
