You need this!!

and before you ask, NO this isnt an advert.... just good advice

right, i have norton internet security on my PC and dont have any problems normally (had big problems a couple of years ago with viruses)

but just recenty the PC has been slow and acting a bit strange.... for example when i go to shut down the computer, it would come up with a message something like...
There are users still connected to this computer, do you still want to shut down?

that and a virus alert by norton keep popping up called Trojon.Elitebar

not good, did a scan with norton, found a couple of things but the computer was still acting strange?? i was convinced something was wrong...
i ended up at this site by looking for good free adaware and virus software
http://www.spywareremoversreview.com...FS1rEgodajyYGw

the one voted best was XoftSpy.... i downloaded it and its brilliant!!!
it found allsorts.... this is after norton had give me the all clear!!!

it found Trojons, adaware, browser hijackers, data miners.....

i reckon you should all try it, free to download and free updates.

if your like me, you wont want to bring in the new year with the command Format c:/u

download site

I dropped Norton over two years ago. It would take over the PC to an extent where the programme itself was slowing everything down

More PCs I look after for friends give trouble when they have Symantec stuff on board.

Most swear by Panda (those that want to buy something anyway)

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

It isn't free as far as I could see, it is free to download and test, but then you need to pay $39.95 for a single computer license if you want to rectify the problems.

Well

It is like lots of utility programs, some are flavour of the month for a short while then another one is shown as better a couple of months down the line. By all means run them all... rather that than have your PC browser hijacked or a keylogger get your important passwords. Provided they update on a regular basis and you scan with them on a regular basis you should not have too many problems. Unfortunately many people install them and forget about them expecting the program to do the scanning all by itself. Of the ones that are capable of that you then find people stopping the scanning halfway through because it was interfering with their work

You may want to try a combination as such that work well with each other at hand :

Norton 2006

Microsoft AntiSpyware

Ad-Aware SE or Pro

Webroot Spy Sweeper

&

Track's Eraser Pro V.5

And a little proggy called HijackThis should also be in every one's arsenal as well.it will stop everything in it's track's from running on your puter so that you may try to clean it in safe mode

With the above combined and as long as you stay on top of your regular cleaning procedure on the computer, you should have no problem's at all

Keep in mind, that alot of spyware proggy's that are on the market will give false positive result's to lure you into buying such

Now, where is the up-load forum in this joint so I can shoot you guy's a few goodie's lol I am new here, must troll around a bit, some one here back back to me and let me know where to put a few of these proggy's here at this site for you to use please !!! If you do not all ready have them and would like to obtain such

Just my opinion

Thank You

bdaski...

Thanks for the offer m8 but we don't host any dodgy software here, or we'd be shut down faster than MG Rover.

That's not to say we don't know where to get it

Happy New Year

My System: Sky HD, TM6800HD, Manhattan Plaza ST550 and TM1500 CI+. 1.0m dish and 36v motor, Panasonic DVD HDD recorder and Panasonic video/DVD recorder. Sony G800 HD TV stand/surround system + Sony KDL40W2000. Infinity USB, Elvis, CAS1, CAS2.

I find Norton ok for firewall and virus protection. It's weak in the area of spyware/adware checking. That's why I use Spysweeper which works in realtime. I just did a comparison between Xoftspy and Spysweeper and the latter found a couple more things which I knew I had (for testing). Xoftspy missed them.

I also use Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy.

Spysweeper is $29.95 from Webroot.

How does Spysweeper compliment/compare with Spybot S&D Jimbo?

What extra does it do?

It just seems that bit more professional to me.
Progarm and definition updates are automatic, you don't need to go looking for them.
The system uses a number of 'shields' that you can configure on or off.
When you load new stuff on your PC Spysweeper asks if you want to include it in it's system.
Home page is protected against hijack in real time.
Picks up stuff on your PC like Geowhere which I was mucking around with.

Cheers. I take it that it runs in the background all the time? From Task Manager, can you see how much memory it uses?
