This photo was snapped over Upton Park Saturday afternoon. The CAA says its not a near miss. You decide. Full story here... _http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4660644.stm

Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum. | It'd be interesting to see the relative sizes of the aeroplanes, as there can be optical illusions with some lenses over distance.

| (Damn pedants) ![]() Ive seen a couple of instances in North London a year or so ago where the planes were definitely within 10 or so wingspans from each other. The last paragraph of the article brings it home, a minimum distance of 2.5 miles between the two is the safety margin. Unless the observer was on the other side of the planet, I dont believe for a minute that these planes could have been photographed with the illusion they were so close together. A couple of other pictures in the can would determine the paths and the avoidance tactics used.

Since the observer is on the ground and the airliner further away (therefore at a higher altitide) , it is in front and most likely flying faster, so even if they are close, there would be no chance of a collision at the time of the photo. What may have been the case two or three minutes earlier is another matter.

My System: 60cm dish, dual LNB, Topfield TF5010PVR | The important thing is they are both travelling in the same (roughly) direction, so I don't see the problem. If they were converging then yes.
