Convicts banned from donating blood to prosecutor

A group of convicts have been told they cannot donate blood to the man who put them in prison because it would cause a "moral dilemma".

Ionel Bleoanca, a public prosecutor in Mehedinti county, southwest Romania, was left fighting for his life after a car crash.

Doctors issued an appeal for blood donations to the local authorities after discovering he had a rare blood type.

More than 40 prisoners at the local Turnu Severin prison immediately offered to give blood, but were told by prison chiefs that even if there was a match, it would not be accepted, the National daily reported.

Prison chief Vasile Burcu said: "We would have to deal with an obvious moral dilemma in this case."
