Cool Britannia rules on

Britain is still officially cool - with its top footballer, veteran actors and capital city leading the way in the definitive list of what's hot.

The island was named coolest country, London was the coolest city in Europe and England captain David Beckham was the coolest celebrity, according to a survey.

A panel including Alexandra Shulman, editor of Vogue, designer Ozwald Boateng and photographer, Rankin came up with a list of the five coolest brands for the Brand Council.

The council was publishing the lists to mark the launch of its second Cool BrandLeaders book.

The top five brands were Alexander McQueen, Bang & Olufsen, Agent Provocateur the Tate Gallery and Ducati.

All the other lists of what's in and what's out were compiled from the results of an online survey carried out in July among 350 18-30-year-olds.

Model Jordan topped the least cool celebrity list, while the Big Brother contestants were third, Victoria Beckham was fourth and Chris Evans was fifth.

In the cool celebrity chart, Justin Timberlake was second, Victoria Beckham was third, Kylie Minogue was fourth and Cameron Diaz was fifth.

Meanwhile Sean Connery was named the coolest man over 50, ahead of voters' dads or grandfathers, Harrison Ford, Jack Nicholson and Tom Jones.

In the female list, Dame Judi Dench won ahead of respondents' nans or mothers, Joan Collins, The Queen and Honor Blackman.

Voters decided the Volkswagen Beetle is the must-have vehicle brand, MTV the hippest media and entertainment brand and Sony, the top household goods brand.
