Linda Smith dies

So who was Linda Smith, I hadn't a clue when a Radio 4 announcement said that a tribute to the comedienne was to be broadcast this week.

Then I thought...maybe it's "her". I never knew her name but she was always on TV panel games and on the radio. She died aged 48 in February, 2006.

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100

A very clever and funny comedienne who is sorely missed.

My System: Pace 2200 Sky digibox with ftv card, Comag SL65 FTA sat receiver, 40cm Sky minidish, Setpal terrestrial receiver (for free uk tv only!).

Yes, she died some weeks ago.

Quirky, but very funny, especially her observations on the Home Counties middle classes!

Her surreal radio series A Brief History of Timewasting (in which she has a "live-in builder", who resides in her house and never finishes his jobs!) has just finished a repeat on radio 7.
Hopefully, series 2 will soon be aired, then you can either listen live on radio7 or use the BBC website "listen again" facility.

(at time of writing, you can still hear her at this link, but not as comedienne!).

She's also sometimes on the radio 7 News Quiz and Just a Minute repeats, check cast lists to see whether she's on any particular one.

Yeah, but I always saw on TV and heard her on the radio. A very perceptive comediene, but like I say, how many people say they knew her name?

I, for one, I am sorry I didn't. But I knew the face and quirky comments.

Linda Smith Tribute programme, BBC Radio 4, 1830pm, this Wed (09/08/06).

After which, from 10/8/06, it will still be available a further 7 days as "listen again", on BBC radio website.
