Unhappy The SPAM Thread

Please post your views / experiences regarding spam and unsolicited e-mail. Just a few weeks ago I would receive no more than one or two a day. Now it's averaging 40 per day.

I use Incredimail with the junk filter activated. I have been both blocking and bouncing all mail in my junk box. Recently I was unable to actually send e-mails. After informing my ISP of the situation they contacted spamhaus dot org. Apparently I'd been blocked as a spammer by their automated (old metal mickey) system, due I was told to my bouncing back e-mails to sender.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

Had the same problems Marts, have had to close down a couple of my catch all addresses, as they were a target for spoofing, still got two to do and then at least I should lose the mail delivery failure notices.

I was using Mailwasher Pro, but if you use the bounce funtion, it simply creates more problems.

A defender of the Remote Control Brigade, Sir R can flick channels faster than a Robben dive

its a big problem, and a very annoying one.

ive yet to find a perfect solution

either you use an over keen spam blocker and end up blocking some legit emails, or you have to sift through... and delete loads of rubbish..

a friend of mine said "its like your phone number... keep changing and you'll be ok"

i think that missed the point, im a person who likes to keep the same email/phone no. so its easy to get hold of me.... surely thats the whole point in the first place...

eventually something will have to be done... like the house phone number, that got beyond a joke too until i decided to do something about it.

Yep .. sift through block and delete is the advice my ISP is giving. They will shortly be installing some state of the art equipment as a catch all .. heaven knows what that entails

I shudder to think what youngsters are receiving in their password protected e-mail boxes!

Yes, spam is my daily snack.

I receive about 200, 250 spam messages every day. I use gmail service who does a really nice anti-spam job. Fetching all the mail using gmail's pop3 server then, leaves the spam at the server and not on my inbox. Spam messages are automatically deleted every 30 days.

So, could be a nice way to make sure youngsters fellows are not receiving the spam, if used this way.

Most of the addresses are spoofed and the sending ip may be an open relay, so not much you can do.

I've just installed Cloudmark on my Outlook and like it very much, may well buy the software when the trial ends.
