My System: Sky+ Pace v3, and before that analouge 80cm dish with Prima by Pace box pointed at 19.2e (not very imaginative then!)
Favourite UK terrestrial/free-to-air channel?

Can't believe this hasn't been done, seems so obvious really. Perhaps a little too obvious, but none the less needs to be asked.

Channel 4 for me, although BBC2 comes a close second.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

What about all of the other ones Salty? You've only shown the analogue channels and there are more than 10 million Freeview boxes in circulation.

Yeah, I did think about that, but I have put 'terrestrial', and I think we all generally accept that these five channels have some sort of special identity above the other Freeview channels. Hope I've put my argument across OK.

Basically, everyone has a preference of one of these channels, while any preferences for the other FV channels is normally only peripheral in nature.

My System: Sky UK family pack. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 5 fixed dishes (4.6E/5E/13E/16E/19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA (with dragon cam), Coship CDVB 2300A, Fortecstar Lifetime Ultra, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S, 2250kb

The last noble sat warrior to fly the olden flag of Analogue

I have added in they are all awful as I hardly ever watch any of them. Ive spent a holiday the last week with only the five terrestrial channels and cant believe just how poor the big 5 have become in the last few months. No wonder viewing figures are dropping.

Fair enough, I was expecting someone to add 'They are worse then a holiday to Baghdad' or something

My System: SS1. 3.4Ghz Dual Core P4. 125cm Gibbi with Channelmaster feedhorn and Inverto C120 twin. 36v H to H

...And thou were the truest friend to thy lover that ever bestrad horse..."

I would rather have a holiday in Baghdad than watch BbC1.
(yes the lower case was deliberate).

These days even the historically, butt clenchingly awful Channel 5 ( Five if you're hip) has on average a more watchable line up over 8 - 10 hours.

BBC Threeeeeee or Four are my preference now when I get back from work.

Yes, BBC Four is by far the best of the Beeb's output. BBC2 repeats some of their programmes sometimes to add a little 'culture' to the channel (late at night though, so they don't drive away the masses )

My System: Pace 2200 Sky digibox with ftv card, Comag SL65 FTA sat receiver, 40cm Sky minidish, Setpal terrestrial receiver (for free uk tv only!).

With the BBC, I think the better content on digital only is quite deliberate, to encourage us all to "go digital" .....

Sorry
I like many others will not be voting on this as it is not a true reflection of anything unless you include all digital terrestrial channels. I rarely watch any of five mentioned as seeing two women clear up someone elses pig sty of a house or showing them how not to paint a room in the colour you hate doesn't interest me

This is quite an interesting point of discussion, because once switchover is complete, the five 'terrestrial' channels won't really have any more platform dominance then the digital only channels.

I have to agree, the output on BBC Three and Four is fantastic, although it must be remembered that the Beeb often use them as 'testbeds' for pioneering programmes, to see whether they can get enough viewers to legitimate showing on One and Two.

The most noticable example of this is 'Little Britain' (Three, to Two, and then finally to One), but now Four programming is making the move to primetime - 'Lead Ballon' (Four to Two). Anyone seen Lead Balloon? Brilliant.

Another favourite of mine from the Four is those city guides with Kirsty Wark, 'Tales of...'. The EU accession countries series was great, and so was the western European cities one is great. I want to go to Madrid to sample the nightlife, tapas bars and 'The Lay Down' and all.

My System: 90cm Dish. Dual Lemon LNB for 13E/19E. Twin Output Lemon LNB for 28.8E. Samsung 9500 with 'alternative' firmware. Couple of DigiBoxes. Amateur Radio station. Going Bald with a patient wife!

Well - I've voted BBC1 but only because they have Sea of Souls on there and similar shows like Spooks and Waking The Dead, etc.

BBC2 hacks me off as it used to be the home of real European cinema before C4 started to show them but the BBC stopped showing this stuff about 10 years ago and deny an outlet, C4 seems to be good for documentaries but again has dropped European cinema (though they churn out the odd one and Film4 is now spoilt with mid-film adverts!), the only thing worth watching on ITV is Emmerdale and I would have voted Ch5 only for the 21st Century Girls Guide To Sex which is some of the best 'real porn' I've seen in a long time!!!!
