Cardsharing clampdown

The Police across Europe have been clamping down on commercial cardsharing rings in Europe

There were raids on two properties in London and Police removed computer and satellite equipment relating to the sharing of sky digital.

Poland saw the most activity with 42 arrests in Warsaw and a vast amount of equipment removed.

Smart card technology is also advancing against the cardsharers, as the new Nova smartcards have been designed to prevent cardsharing.

Will add more information as it comes in.

Can someone explain in laymans terms what 'CardSharing' is?

Has something to do with Official SKY card cloning/emulating - to be used in a non-sky stb?

Pls don't write back 'Yes' if so - a brief explanation would be great (if you have heard about it) - I haven't got a clue

The last noble sat warrior to fly the olden flag of Analogue

Nothing like cloning. (which indicates copying a card)

An internet connection is used to share the keys off a valid subscription card to other users

Well, it is

You must have a valid card to share

My guess is that they will try to make a tight marriage between the card and the box

and I am sure it will be fixed

Its just a network of dreambox`s and maybe a few relook`s all sharing there official card subs. So most providers are watchable!

S*Y will just update their cards with ones that cannot be shared.

A costly exercise, but it'll stop users sharing them.

It's not just S*Y cards that are shared.

Has card sharing ever been tested legally? You don't have the K*ys on your receiver and if the connection is broken so is your viewing.

Sounds like it may only be the person sharing that could potentially be breaking his contract?

Since I haven't applied myself to this nefarious activity (he says like a wannabe lawyer, but more like a dunce) - I had suspected that for all this to be successful - and expanding on what GB said - your STB would have to be 'online' while viewing, receiving keys as they change, correct? Uuumm, so your STB has an IP address.

Isn't it then just a tale of the three 'P's': like, IP, Ping and Prison.

Im tempted to read some catch-up reading on this, but, so far, have SKY gone after the (lets say) 'Seeders', the 'Leechers' or all the Naughty Rascals involved ??

Personally, I would prefer the coal-powered way of hacking - if I could ever hack hacking that is. The sad truth is that I find it all far too complicated, oh, and I have never attempted it, hehe.

[edit] CHANGE CARDS ;-(( Not that crap again. Wasn't it 25 quid a pop for the FTV cards.

So it really works then? Must be a lot of generous subscribers out there! Do these generous people expect you to share in return? I take it you don't have to? I'd love a reliable way of getting the Iberian channels without having to sell a kidney, and I guess if it works, I could always take out a cheap sub to something or other in return.

There are very few generous people out there.

Many CS rings are private and reciprocal, you need to bring something to the table and it needs to be something which nobody else in the ring has. These are relatively safe from detection, as they are normally small groups of friends who keep their activities very quiet and do not discuss them in open forum (hence why CS discussion is not always the most active).

Those which aren't, are mostly commercial ones and these are the ones which are prime targets for the authorities/TV Companies, as they'll accept anyone who is prepared to pay.

All no-ip does is map your current ip address to a more easily rememberable domain name such as satellites.no-ip.com. It does NOT hide your real ip address, in fact it probably makes it easier to trace as once I have your no-ip domain name, I can track you even if your ip changes.

I'd like to get more and more into understanding how it could work, ideally. Proxys, tunnels, vpn, ip masking... it's all a bit hazy for me

Well, let me try to explain something.

At this moment there are several STB receivers that are able to do CardSharing in PEER mode (like Fergusson, Arion, Ouralis, Teka, and some models of Edision, Philips, Humax and Mvision). There is always need to have a server (DreamBox normaly or PCSAT). By the way dvbxtreme team is given an hell of support to everybody who have Fergusson and clone receivers.

It exists several cardsharing protocols, the most used are GBOX and NEWCAMD with good software developments.

The general idea is:

- DreamBox with local card shares trought internet the ECM of that card to other users. Those users can be DreamBox with local cards or others STB's with cardsharing suport that can also share this ECM's to others PEERS.

- The protocol used by the server and Peers must be the same (gbox or newcamd are the most used ones).

- The protocol software send the ECM's to internet to another user that have the same software protocol that receives the information and decrypts the ECM's to STB receiver and opens the channel of that specified provider.

- Of course it's necessary to have an DSL connection with at least 1Mb or the image will freeze.

- About the IP there's always a big problem. Your IP will be known by your Server and the rest of the PEERS. Since almost IP's are dynamic we must arrange a Static IP or have a service to update my IP everytime it changes (there are several free services in internet: dyndns or no-ip.org). We can't use HideIP because the dyndns service will update the proxy IP and the protocol software instaled in our computer will not work.

- We can share or reshare the ECM's to Internet or to our network (neibgourhs, another receiver on our house, etc, etc).

YES IT'S DANGEROUS AND ILEGAL. If somebody want's to h4ck you they have your IP. At least it will be wise to have a good Firewall software and close doors 21, 22 and 23 on Windows Firewall.

I'm trying to know what should be the most safe way to cardsharing. I'm looking at VPN at the moment. This is very important because the internet packects are known and can be easily sinffed by someone .

Yes indeed. i'm very wary of giving out my details to some dodgy cs server out there... VPN idea sounds nice though. but even still, i suppose you shoul only do that with people your can really trust upon

There is only (!) one way to go

Make it private. non-commercial, and do it by friends

and , if U use Gbox, keep the D-line VERY private
