Anyone from the North of England of a certain age should remember Midget Gems (made by Lion's ??) Best place BTW for bygone confect is Whitby ;-)) Anyway, At the Airport preparing to leave the UK, I came across these Maynard's Midget Gems (on the back it states 'formerly Lion Midget Gems'). If they are the same thing, certainly Maynard's have managed to make them all taste like hard wine gums - and the Liquorice Black Gem seems to have taken a hike ;(( albeit, they have introduced a 'blackcurrent' black one. Reminds me of when Nestle had their 'softing-up' excercise of all the old Rowntree 'Gum' based confectionary - because the Europeans thought they were far too hard ?? And why have 'Jelly Babies' turned into sugar dusted fat tellytubies ?? I'll stop now, my teeth are falling out. .
