Dish going walkies...

After fifteen years in the same location, and no doubt growing roots, my SMW dish has to be moved to a different area in the garden, as it's now unable to see much of the arc now from 30W on, only 58W visible.

The problem is my neighbour's trees have been growing rapidly during the last year - he's willing to trim them, but his wife is not so inclined, no doubt not happy with a dish staring at her while she hangs out the lingerie.

I've managed to procure some masting, 12 foot of 3 inch diameter steel tubing, which I intend to T&K to my concrete garage at the bottom of the garden to clamp the dish on. This will give me a clear view of the arc from 60E - 60W. I'm going to lose a few dB's as it adds an extra 10M of cable to the overall length to the house (total will be now ~35M).

Just need a reel of Webro WF125. Anybody know the cheapest place to get a reel from?

Llew

My System: have a 2.40 m Amercian monster + truman Gold starsat + NeotionBox3000 + Mvision + DragonX

can you post some pics of the dish (i like to see old dishes) also the lingerie , so we can judge how those things affect your dish
my intentions are purely proffesional so we give the right opinion

about losing few db as cabel length will be longer , have u tried RG11 cable , excellent in long distance connection .

was serious about the dish pics , waiting ...

Would like to have used something like RG11, but I have a couple of fairly tight bends along the run, it might be hard to manoeuvre this cable.

Here's the dish as it stood a couple of years ago, with an old Grundig twin LNB (now has an Invacom C120 twin). Despite a little surface discolouration, there has been no obvious ageing of either the dish or the polar mount since new. A tribute to the fine workmanship of this Swedish manufacturer.

Nah. That's my point - trees hide them as long as they're of decent length. Trees I mean. Not the nick- nacks

Dug out Wotsat's test report for my dish. Check out those 1992 prices for the whole pack

Cost me even more with a 0.8dB LNB. State of the art then. I exchanged the tiddly actuator for a larger one and associated range extender.

My System: Dm500, TM9100, Pace Sky+ box, 1M Dish. Motect 2100.. 43Inch Plasma, Wii, PS2.

Shame about that.. you could drill an hole in the base of the tree and pour some bleach or something in the hole.. would soon discolour and die the owners would then chop it down

There has been several OA-1400 for sale here used very cheap.

Here is some pics of the OA-1600 which is the best dish of them all.

I would take the OA-1600 any day over my motorized Fibo.

No motor and the dish covers 40 degrees and each position equals a 1.1m dish.

It's no problems here as our buildings are built to very high standards.

That dish is about 1.65x1.2m

There are a few of them around here on houses.

Here's the repositioned dish. Despite the garage in front, I now have a perfect view of the arc from 60E to 60W, and with new WF125 cabling it's now all systems go

looks good liew did you have to mod the brackets for the pole then

that aerial in the background would have been better on the chimney with a small pole

Yes wod, brackets needed holes widening to take the 3 inch u-bolts - couldn't find any others suitable.

Opposite neighbour's pole had been there for yonks, I suspect he took the easy option and added the new aerial to it.
