Question Telephone Alternative?

Has anyone used it yet?
I only just learned about it tonight from my niece in the Middle East, she is going to live in the States in a couple of weeks and was recommending Jajah as an alternative to Skype, the main difference being that you use it through your ordinary telephone system instead of having a special phone or a headset and microphone.

To operate you sign up and then when you want to make a call you log in type in your number and your receipients number(they must be registered also). Then apparently you click and the system dials you both. Haven't yet made out which calls are free, and what the charge rates are just wondered if anyone was using it and if so is it any good?

It looks interesting, there's concern on the usenet groups about what qualifies as a free call, and even when it is free it has to be within a fair use policy.

Some say the terms and conditions are just unclear and the customer support is undertrained. Others take a much stronger view and think the whole thing is a scam, luring people in with free calls then after a few free ones offering just fairly average priced calls, with deliberately misleading pricing schemes to hide this and keep people from leaving.

I've never used it, and so can't really comment on quality or anything else, but if you do try it I'd recommend you do it cautiously and keep and eye on the billing just in case.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

With wifi Skype phones now available, there is no need to have the PC switched on and if both ends have Skype, then the calls are always free and I have found that the quality of the Skype calls are generally better than many International landline calls.

My System: FTE Max, Skystar2.3 and Skystar2.6, 2.2m Kinhuge Dish with Inverto LNB and Invacom ADF-120 feedhorn. Pace 1.3.25 and 80cm for Sky.

We use voipcheap, you can try it for free (upto 5 minutes / call). Only problem that we have had is that occasionally the other end gets locked up if the call is not terminated properly. Bonus is that you can call anyone registered or not. Generally much cheaper than Skype, and also can use either regular phone or PC.
