John Inman dies, aged 71

I'm sure that most Brits over the age of 30 remember the Are you being served series and John Inman's Mr Humphries character, particularly his catchphrase, I'm Free.

A bit dated now, but I used to love that series, even Wendy Richard/Pauline Fowler (Miss Brahms) looked attractive in those days.

Sad to see his passing.

You just beat me to posting that info Rolf.

In it's day it was very funny and according to the news today attracted 22 million viewers in it's prime.

'I'm Free' would be ringing out at work most days.

Last staging post for old character actors and music hall comedians too.

I remember seeing Arthur English when he was the archetypal spiv/wide boy doing the fleapit theatres in the 50's.

Sad loss indeed the likes of that kind of humour will never be seen again except on repeats of Are You Being Served?

So who's making the memorial statue?

I wonder what the plaque's catchphrase will say....

But on a serious note, even though I'm only a "young 'un" (21 years young) I still found "Are you being served" very funny and he'll be missed...

I suppose you could say he really is free now!!!!
