'Good Time George' Dies

George Melly, jazz singer, writer and art historian has passed away aged 80.

A great all- round entertainer with a liking for singing blues in the Bessie Smith style, his loud and colourful singing style matched the loud and colourful jackets

I first saw him perform when getting into jazz in the late '50s. RIP George.

My System: Motorised dish, dvd players and recorders; a freeview box, broadband, VCRs, four TVs, mobiles, pcs, a mac, Ipod, digital cameras...the lot!

My bruv liked him. A sad loss, one of the last remaining true eccentrics in the Liberace mode.

My System: Sky+, DB 7000s, Gemini 4.3 in flash, Var on USB stick. Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Unaohm EP313, Swires Annie 204 Spectrum, Rover ST-4 Spectrum.

Didn't particularly like his jazz, but no doubt that he was an outstanding personality in the second half of the 20th century, a sad loss but great memory.

George said he was gay until he was 30, bisexual till 55 and straight till the day he died.

He had it all ways. Literally. No offence.
