Vodafone 3G launch set for fall, says Gent

Vodafone is looking to a fall launch for its 3G service, according to comments made by the company’s chief executive, Christopher Gent, in an interview with Focus, a German magazine.

Gent says that the company needs another three to six months to resolve the last technical issues surrounding the dropping of calls from soft handover when subscribers shift from 2G to 3G coverage areas. Soft handover allows communication with more than one cell site in order to always seek out the highest quality signal.

Gent also said in the interview that the company plans to launch its service in eight European countries.
