Help Please with satellite, TV, FM and DAB distribution system.

This section is for discussion on domestic multi-receiver systems for distribution of both terrestrial and satellite signals. Multiswitch, diplexer, triplexer, earct bonding, smart Priority switch, signal splitter, SCART doubler, video sender, remote extender, etc.

My System: Single satellite dish 8 triplex outlets 3 receivers Only need sky and freesat
Help Please with satellite, TV, FM and DAB distribution system.

I am looking to distribute satellite,TV,FM/DAB throughout my home. At present I have a sky minidish with quad LNB, a sky + receiver and a standard sky receiver. There are 8 triplex outlet plates throughout. I would also like to have freesat thoughout and one sky HD receiver. All cabling is satellite grade coax.

Can I utilise the existing minidish to supply a multiswitch with the TV/FM DAB triplexed into it for distribution throughout and if so can anyone recommend the necessary equipment. Is there any limitations with the quab lnb and the minidish

I am aware that sky+ needs 2 feeds but that I can use a stacker/destacker. Is there any issues I need to consider if I do this.

Any help will be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi,

To use a multi-switch, apart from some such as the EMP-Centauri models, you need a quattro rather than a quad LNB. Also with distribution systems it is reccomended to get a lightly larger dish than normal, to compensate for some of the extra losses you will get with a distribution system. On that note, you would be beter off getting a new standard dish, slightly larger and fitting a quattro to it. Then you would need a multiswitch with 5 inputs and as many outputs as you need ( a 5 in in 12 out perhaps). To add the other inputs for FM, DAB etc you can get combiner modules so that they all feed into the 5th input on the multiswitch. A triplexer is only needed to get all the different frequencies back out of the cable, they can be combined to get them in.

Not sure why you would want to use a stacker/destacker as it is just extra expense, much cheaper to run an extra cable.

Which coax are you using exactly?, and what is the length to the Sky box. As another consideration for using the stacker/destacker is that the cable run is not to be too long and that it will cope with the higher frequencies used by the stacker.

BTW, I have changed the thread title, it is better to make it a bit more useful than 'help please'

Thanks for that.

The distance from the dish to the multi-switch is approx 10m and the longest run fto any outlet will be approx 23m.

The second cable for sky + has been missed and all of the decorating is complete so I need an option that would be easier on my ears than saying that I would need to re-chase a little.

I will findout the coax spec and get back to you.

Could you recommend any of the bits I need
Dish, Quattro LNB, Multi-switch and combiner?

Cheers

None of the dish items are at all critical. for a Sky based (28E) system.

screwfix do a 60cm Triax dish and an Inverto quattro LNB fairly cheaply. The Inverto LNBS are good, I have a 1m Triax and it performs very well too.

As for a multiswitch, I don't know I have never used one, Triax do a fair range. One of the member installers will be able to reccomend a good make, the same goes for the combiner.

I suppose with the stacker/destacker, if you are willing to shell out and give it a bash, then why not, 10m is a very short run. Myself I like to spend the minimum and get the best performance least risk solution,so I'd try to find a way to run an additional cable with the least disruption (externally maybe)
