Newbie, connect everything in the new house

Hi All,

This is my first post here and am I glad I found this forum.
Right first things first, only 3 days to christmas and holidays are here so:

Also I appologise if this is the wrong topic for my thread...

Now down to my dummy questions. I had a look around the forum but still can't find what I'm looking for...
I moved into the new house where I have TV sockets in all rooms (4). All cables are in the loft awaiting connection to the TV aerial or my satellite dish. I want to know if its is possible to use the same cables to feed both aerial and satellite signals and maybe in the future cable TV or extra satellite dish???
I've been told that you can by using a certain device(which I can't remember what it was..). I would like though to ask you guys (The Experts

) if such thing is possible and what do I have to do? Any information in which device I should get or if there is a better solution I would like to hear it.

I want to be able to use a satellite receiver or freeview box or even a dreambox (something that I would like to find out more about soon) in any room. I DON'T want or at least I would like to avoid drilling extra holes in the walls to bring more cables in every room.

I require your knowledge so fire away...

Hi Nick, welcome to the forum.

If the cable is double screened satellite cable, then you can diplex/triplex TV, Radio and satellite signals down one cable. You can even send two satellites signal down a single cable by using a stacker de-stacker.

It's possible to diplex UHF & IF (satellite) down one cable feed and use a diplexed outlet plate in the room (TV & SAT). DIP2 diplexers are fairly good but there are many manufactures.

Options also to fit a satellite multiswitch which has an internal UHF/IF diplexer and connect your drop cables to the outputs of the switch. For this you would need a 5 input multiswitch. As you mentioned an extra dish for future, you could also consider a 9 input switch that will accept two satellite signals from different satellites. The switch will have DiSEqC control to switch between the two satellites. This equipment is manily used for large domestic or commercial sites but still can be used for home set ups

Hi guys, thanks for your replies and your welcoming.

I googled for a bit on your suggestions and I think I like the idea "satelliteman" suggested (No offence rolfw

). The multiswitch with 9 inputs.
I found this website that offers a 9in 8 out Triax switch, I don't know how good or bad that switch is but I presume it will do my job.

It says that it has 2 quatro LNB points. Does it matter if the LNB's will be single or if one is Quad and the other is single or cable TV feed (Virgin)????

Will I still have to use diplex outlet sockets in every room??

As for the cable that is already installed I think its a standard satellite cable, which I presume its double screened...

No, the switch requires 2 x quatto LNbs. (Forget cable, p.s No cable talk here)

Diplex or Triplex outlet plates are still required.

Thank you satelliteman, the Televes switch looks good. I'll have a look around to see where I can buy one from.

As for the diplex/triplex outlet, here comes a dummy question...
I've seen the diplex have (TV/FM) and SAT outlet, and the triplex TV, Radio(FM) and SAT. Does it mean that I get only 1 SAT in every room or can I use the Radio from the outlet to connect to anothe sat receiver???

If it means that is only one SAT in every room, if I then use a splitter can I have 2 receivers connected to the same SAT from the outlet that are tunned to the different LNB's???

I hope what I wrote makes sence...

No, you can't split the sat o/p of the triplexed wall plate, nor can you use the radio feed.

Each socket on the wall plate is a filtered version of what comes from the main feed, that separates the required signals.

To have two satellite feeds in the room, you need two cable runs from the switch going to the triplexed plate (one with two sat points)

Tis why I suggested 8way output switch over 4 cable runs, to cover yourself for dual feed IRS in future.
