Hello, can I first apologise for this long first post and apologise if attached picture links are too big as I have no idea how to make them smaller or indeed if they work can someone let me know if they can be viewed

. Can I also say the info found on this site is brill!!!

Better than in the shops. Hope I don’t break any rules. Here we go---

Aim--I am trying to run sat, uhf, vhf and fm to eight rooms.

4 rooms rooms 1-4 to have a sat+ receiver subscription of full package and three multiroom cards and 4 rooms rooms 5-8 to be linked using eyes no receivers at present.

I have three options that I think will work and one for adding CCTV if possible.

As I am redecorating, now is the time to run the cables in the walls and hopefully I will not need extra in the future!! Optimistic lol. I have just used this make as an example in the diagram as I believe that most makes will run on the same principle.

Question 1—Will these set ups work using an amplifier and multiswitch or as in option 3 just a distribution unit with sky switched off--- if not could you suggest better or even if it does work have you a better idea to achieve my aim?

Question 2 — Referring to the amplifier and multiswitch in Option 1 is the amplifier located internally say in loft and do you know what test connector is for?

Question 3—Two cables from multiswitch do they connect this way into quadplex modular?

Question 4 — 4 rooms rooms 5-8 to have sky link with 4 eyes as no sky receiver but may upgrade later so no connection on sat 1 sat 2 at present in quadplex modular so will tv/dab still work from the two multiswitch cables and the quadplex modular?

Question 5—Will the sky link with 4 eyes work how I have drawn it and is coax or f socket best to use for link from rf2 on sky receiver?

Question 6—On the 4 rooms rooms 5 -8 with sky link with 4 eyes I presume (not good idea!) I need a splitter at each to go into the one aerial connection on the TV for the cable from the TV outlet on modular 1 and the cable from the other coax/f outlet on modular2? What is best please?

Question 7—Could you explain how to earth with the earth bonding I have completed a total rewire of non notifiable work under 17th edition within my house so shall I just run 4mm earth to consumer earth (will ask sparky just to connect)? Would all options need to be earthed?

Question 8—At some point in this set up there is a need to have short and long cable runs. Where would you suggest long runs to be---I can locate amp and switch either in loft or at ground level.

Question 9—Do I need to put an in line amplifier on sky leads CM5220 to the LNB if so would I need 4 one per line?

Question 10 — Do amplifiers use much electric?

Question 11— Referring to Option 3 using the distribution method instead of a multiswitch would I need the masthead amp as unit has an amplifier built in? Also as no sky will be linked to this would I just connect the downlink uplink with a small piece of cable and not run to the first room? This option has the advantage that if distribution unit breaks I still have sky channels.

Question 12— Referring to CCTV Option could I put CCTV on UHF cable in options 1-3? If so, where in diagram and what/how many splitter/combiners would I use for 2 cameras?

Finally and importantly if I cannot continue to afford the sky subscriptions will the receivers still be able to receive the free channels if I cancel contract after 1 year. Is this known as freesat?

As you can see I have tried to research this and hope it is within my limitations! Thanks for any advice xxxxx

From the look of things, the Octo LNB option may be the best for you, then use the Loftbox style amp for your UHF, VHF, DAB and CCTV distribution. Nothing to stop you sending 2 Sky feeds around the system as well.

You would need two RF modulators for the CCTV camera, or perhaps a 4 camera DVR with one modulator.

Whether or not you will require the masthead amp for your UHF signal will depend on how good the signal is to start off with.

Ok your going to have to forgive me if i get this wrong as I'm trying to give up smoking and these tablets are making reading lots of stuff a little hazy at the moment

From what i can gather all your trying to do is just put a basic IRS system into your house with the added bonus of CCTV.

If it was myself i would go down the usual route of

Aerial, Dab Aerial, FM aerial to a multiband diplexer ( or Diplexing Masthead amp if needed)

Now this is the tricky bit as i've never had to combine CCTV into an IRS even though i do work on both systems.

The CCTV would have to go through a modulator as Rolf has already said. I would set this on the furthest available frequency away from the nearest UHF channel to minimise any possible interference.

It would then need to be put into the dipexed feed by using something like a combiner or if your really stuck by using a 2 way tap/splitter (Its a bit rough but it usually works)

This would then go into the Terrestrial feed on your chosen multiswitch.

I would use a Vision V5-508MP switch mainly because i like using Vision Kit and also as it has an inbuilt power feed for any mast head amp you may have to use.

It also saves you having to buy an individual power supply for the masthead amp.

On the dish side i would set it up as normal apart from using a Quattro lnb instead of a single feed lnb. I believe the aforementioned switch will work with a quad lnb, although i couldn't say 100% as i've never tried using them in that way.

You then run the individual VL, HL, VH, HH feeds into the appropriate port on the multiswitch.

Its just a case then of running an individual cable to each room and installing a Triplate to split the combined signal back into individual ones.

When you say – ‘Nothing to stop you sending 2 sky feeds around the system as well’. - could you explain further how to do this please. What would doing this achieve?

My thoughts are do you mean connect the distribution unit's lnb 1 and 2 inputs and the down, uplink to the lounge room 1? If so I could use my old dish and receiver with this set up. How would this then connect to faceplates? Would I use a quadplex with return for the distribution unit and old sky receiver and then another modular with just sky 1 and sky 2 for the octo lnb cables off of dish 2 which will be new sky + receiver?

Would it then mean that all rooms would receive only the sky channel being watched in room 1 the lounge distributed from the loft distributor and dish 1 with no option to change channel in rooms 2-8. (I suppose there is a way to overcome this if needed using a separate handylink IR distribution system).

In other words I would have two systems the loft distributor to do it all with dish 1 sat, uhf, dab fm and CCTV with option of only same sky channel in each room and then a separate octo system with the ability to change channels as drawn in option 3.

Gee I am now confusing myself lol. You probably have a simpler explanation! Or it may be easier not to do this!

The loft box will diplex a single satellite signal with a UHF signal, so you can then use whichever outlet plate is most suitable, from the sound of it, you will also need a second satellite feed and a return path to the loft, the same with one of the other Sky boxes. Providing the terrestrial signal is looped through one of the Sky boxes, it will then be distributed around the whole house.

If one is a Sky+ and one is a standard, you simply need to use the 2 box combiner made by Global, or you can actually combine four of them using the super plus combiner, it then allocates separate remote channels for each box. _http://www.tvlink.co.uk/acatalog/Copy_of_tvLINK.html.

Global provide a few pieces of kit which can minimise the cable runs required, if i get a chance I'll make a sketch tomorrow evening.

Most distribution amplifiers use less than 300ma and masthead amps less than 100ma.

Yes, your boxes wikll still work if you cancel Sky, but the plus feature will not.
