Campus IPTV (setup by a newbie - HELP!)

I too like many newbie’s have read as many posts on this website that my mind can handle. I thought at one time that I had my question answered but I have a technician questioning my solution.

So here I go. I have a customer that wants to pick up 23 TV channels that are Free to Air on 5 different satellites. My customer is in Stuttgart, Germany. I called the Kathrein sales office and worked with the sales director to determine that I need 1 90 cm dish and 4 75 cm dishes to pick up Astra 1F/1G/1H/1KR/1L (19,2°E), Atlantic Bird 3 (5°W), Eutelsat W3A (7.0E), Hotbird 6/7A/8 (13°E), and Intelsat 7/Intelsat 10 (68.5°E). I read all of the information I could on the LNB's and decided to purchase a Quad LNB because I need to pull the H and V on Atlantic Bird 3 (5°W) and Intelsat 7/Intelsat 10 (68.5°E).

First question: How do I know if my signal is Horizontal High or Low on my polarization? I have looked at www.lyngsat.com and www.satcodx.com and cannot for the life of me determine where to look to find out the polarizations.

I am taking the satellite signal and converting it from coax to fiber to transport the signal to the telecom room on the 1st floor (then converting it back). I have 2 AV racks in the telecom room for all of my equipment. I looked at a Blonder Tongue Commercial Digital Satellite Receiver (CDSR-6181). Now my technical sales guy for some of my IP TV equipment said that this will not work.

Second Question: If the Blonder Tongue will not work - why? What satellite receiver (or tuner card) should I be using? Someone mentioned NTSC or PAL is this the problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Firstly regarding polarity, look in the first column on this page _http://www.lyngsat.com/astra19.html, the frequency will be listed with an H or V after it. Regarding high or low band, it will to a degree depend on the receiver settings, but as a rule, anything over 11,600 will be high band.

You may consider using the Global Invacom fibre optic LNBs and converters, as these have a choice of breakout units, twin, quad, quattro and splitters. would mean only one optic cable per satellite received.

Unfortunately I have no knowledge of the Blonder Tongue range of kit so cannot comment, although the model you speak of is for NTSC and specifically designed for an American provider. Could it be that you require a composite video output from the receiver and not a UHF modulated signal?

We have at least a couple of members here who are quite clued up on IPTV, hopefully they'll pick up on this thread.

Regarding the dishes, you could probably use something like the Visiosat Big Bisat, or Torroidal 90cm dish for four of the satellites and the 90cm for 68.5 East, would certainly make a neater installation.

Thank you for the information. I will take a look at _www.lyngsat.com again in regards to the H and V. As well as research the Global Invacom LNB's and converters. The only reason that I looked hard at Kathrein is because my boss has used Kathrein before for other stuff and he knew that they had satellite dishes and LNB's. He does not know how to put this stuff together so he gave it to me to solve.

Did you mean to say that I needed a larger dish for 68.5 East, because you stated 90 cm twice?

Don't know what you need for 68.5 east Julie, was assuming that you had checked the dish size requirements, one of our German resident members may be able to help there, the Torroidal 90cm is a multi satellite dish, which means that for the satellites other than 68.5 East, you would only require one dish, not four.
