My System: sky and sky plus with octo lnb
Multiswitch to octo Lnb

Hi all first ever post on any forum so bare with me

I have been renovating my house for a few years and basically have a sky and sky plus down stairs with uhf feed going through video and dvd player (yes found a uhf out one) these feed up stairs to an antifernce 260l distribution box as i have been renovating rooms i have run a satellite grade cable to each room and added a tv point where all of the downstairs equipment can be viewed

The last room i have to renovate is where the source equipment is when i renovated the room above i added a octo lnb to my standard sky dish and as the dish is on the wall at the same level as the floorboards in the upstairs room I removed all the cables from the ouside of my house and have run the cables through the floorboards and trunked down the internal wall this uses 4 of the lnb outputs as have used the hd100 dual cable and have allowed for addition of a hd freesat box in the future

I was very pleased with this until i looked at upgrading my antiference box to one that supports magic eye (fed up of walking downstairs to change sky)

I have now found out about multi switches and as far as I can tell i could use the remaing four lnb's to feed a multi switch that supports quad but not quattro (someone needs to make an octo that is half quad half quattro maybe)

I know i could use the four lnbs to feed 4 rooms but a) i have 7 and b) the cable run to the location of the distribution box is very close c) all the cables to the tv ports are plastered into nice newly decorated walls

in theory i think i need a 5 in 8 out quad friendly switch that will take the uhf feed from current system and the remote eye signal and send it down to nice MK triplexors (has to be mk socket anything else looks crap) for me to then attach all sorts of goodies

My question to you learned people is which switch is going to do that

Many thanks

Carl

Hi Carl,

To accept an input from effectively a quad LNB, you need one with Q2 Technology.

My System: sky and sky plus with octo lnb

Hi guys

Thanks for info

I called vision and they explained that there isn't much difference between quattro and quad lnb versions just that most companies decided to cut down to one type to save costs

They are going to see if they can find me a refurbed old model and call me back

Any other quad models out there let me know

Thanks

Carl

Hi All

I have found 2 quad lnb compatible multi switches

_http://www1.conrad-uk.com/scripts/wgate/zcop_uk/~flN0YXRlPTMxMDI3MjkwMTE=?~template=PCAT_AREA_S_BR OWSE&glb_user_js=Y&shop=UK&zhmmh_lfo=&zhmmh_area_k z=&product_show_id=940298&gvlon=&p_init_ipc=X&p_pa ge_to_display=fromoutside&~cookies=1&cookie_n

and a uk seller of the EMP centuari EMP p146-UP

_http://www.tps.uk.com/tps/home.html?product_id=909&product_group_id=23&choic e_id=23&tab_id=3&page_name=product

Basically EMP do an economy line and a Professional line from what i can work out if you use a quatrro lnb you need less electronics in the multiswitch thus making it cheaper with quad you need more and therefore more expensive

_http://www.emp-centauri.cz/products.php?page=products&id_kateg=5&id_pkateg=36 &id=19

looks like its £95 for the conrad or £129 for the EMP will probably pay the extra as TPS knew what i was talking about and conrad was just a person on the phone with a very large catologue of electrical bits

Final update hopefully

I have also found anti ference do a quad compatible multiswitch at about £170 any of the models that end in T

I ordered the EMP p146-UP as was the mid range price it arrived next day

Installation wise I first had to identify the four cables on the octo lnb running my existing sky systems downstairs had a 50/50 chance as knew had put all 4 together
When identified I pulled 1 (shotgun) cable back in to the house I then taped the 2 new cables onto the end of the other cable popped outside shimmed up the ladder and pulled them through connected the f connectors and hooked all up to the lnb

Drilled even more holes in the joists under the floorboards and run the cables back to the landing cupboard where the old amp is (put in two more cat5e whilst there)

I thought rather than put all four cables straight into the new multiswitch i would bring my skybox and a portable tv upstairs and i then tested each cable worked. I then connected all four to the multiswitch and tested one of the outputs with the skybox all worked fine

I then got the kids to turn on all the tv's and moved the feeds over one by one from the amp to the multi switch the multi switch has a built in attenuator on the antener feed which has given me a much better picture on channel5 only thing have noticed is the sky box UHF is a little wavy so I might try and change the channel it is transmitting on

Last thing is it doesn't work with the magic eye

Great news that you have the multiswitch working

I think you can buy a bypass module/cable or similar for when using amps/units that are not compatible with the magic eye, never used one, but some of the guys on here are bound to have more detail.
