My System: 4 lnb dish amstrad reciever with sky card pace reciever with no card wired on seperate lnbs
Help Needed please

Hi I'm new to all this satellite stuff and need some help with a problem and am getting serious earache over not being able to watch big brother!

right, got a 4lnb dish( was already on house) with one feed going to an amstrad box running sky, i got another feed going to a pace box (left by previous owner) with no card, the sky card in the amstrad box wont work in the pace box, says incompatible card or something. Is there a way of getting both boxes working so i can have different channels on each box? If I ring sky, for another card then they will make me do multi room right? or do I need one of those recievers that you see in maplins?

im just looking for the cheapest quick option atm am going to upgrade properly at later date

thanks for any help

Hello

Welcome to the forum francobones

With the equipment you already have you can only get the FTA channels on the Pace unit, there is no way of duplicating the subscription card or sharing it without incurring further expense of purchasing linux based stb's. Even then as sky are in the middle of a card swap which we suspect is to stop card sharing, when the system is switched on after full roll out probably December ish, it is highly likely that little avenue of pleasure will stop also.

thanks for the help,
so what are my 2nd receiver options with a fixed dish pointing at sky then? freesat doesn't look much better than freeview only a couple of hd channels, I keep seeing these boxes in maplins, are they worth the money or too good to be true? i want something everyone can use without being a boffin? do i need to get a motorised dish?

thanks again

Well

Without knowing exactly what it is you are after I cannot answer that question. Freesat is all you are going to get on 28.2 without a card and as almost every other provider on other satellites is now secure encryption, no stb is really going to help, from Maplins or anywhere else.

ok then, the quick fix is out of the window, im after as many english speaking channels (don't mind if the footy is in foreign) i can get for as little monthly cost in multiple rooms. I don't mind one off charges to buy equipment

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

The last noble sat warrior to fly the olden flag of Analogue

The best avenue for English language channels is Sky UK - which will cost you a tenner a month for multiroom & require the boxes are plugged into the same phone line.

Big Bore is available in the clear on the C4 family of channels - they arent using the "live feed" this year so only the sceduled programmes are available. Unless the box is faulty you should be able to watch BB programmingon that box.

Thanks for that, I hadn't even tried it without a card as I didn't think it would work!
Gets quite a few channels no ITV1 or five but I can live without that.

cheers
