Help setting up multiswitch system

Good afternoon folks,

Please bear with me as I have very limited knowledge in this area of expertise unlike you lot!

I work on a ship in the North Sea (off the coast of Aberdeen).

We have a dish with a quattro LNB feeding a multiswitch (triax tm5x8).

I want to add extra user outputs but this particular multiswitch doesn't have loopthrough of the inputs so I need to do this another way.

I found these things;

It is a tap out. I don't quite know what this thing does, I was assuming that you place it before the multiswitch and then this allows you to add an extra multiswitch from the extra outputs on the tap? is this correct?

Does this thing also boost the signal?

Thankyou very much in advance for any help

Hi,

You need a launch amp in order to use a 5 wire tap.

Either replace the switch for one with more outputs or use 2 way splitters on the inputs to feed two switches.

thankyou very much for the fast response.

Just so I know what you mean, can I put a two way splitter like this;

on each of the four inputs to the multiswitcher and run one cable from each to each multiswitch?

Thanks very much again for your help

one more question please satelliteman then I promise I won't pester you anymore.

If I do it this way (with the four x two way splitters on the four inputs), does it effect the channels? ie, if somebody turns over on their box will it effect another box?

The only reason I ask, is because I was told that if I use these two way splitters it only allows each user to watch certain channels etc.

Or, am I right in assuming that this is only the case if the splitters are at the user end of the multiswitch and not before the multiswitch?

Thanks again,

your help is much appreciated

Sorry again satman, thought of something else.......

If I do it this way with the four splitters, I assume I wont need an amp?

One of the multiswitches is going to be right next to the splitters and one roughly 40m away.

Thanks again

Ah, makes a little difference. You can use splitters if both switches are local.
In this case I'd be inclined to use a launch amplifier into a 5 wire tap feeding the local switch and then through ports to second switch further down the line
