what make STB for DD-Direct +

Dear Members,

I want to buy a new STB set for DD-Direct+. I had visited the shop and he has two STBs. One is from Beetel and the other one is from BEL. There is a price difference of about Rs.1,000/- between two. Beetel is for about 2.6K and BEL is for about 3.6K.
I want to install it in my parents house. Which is better Qualitywise and EaseofUse wise. Price is does not matter for me. Quality and Ease of Use should be better. Please share your experience.

Regards,
Anant Athavale.

Brother, At Coimbatore, I bought set top box, Dish antenna with 20 mtrs cable for Rs.2000/-. For viewing DTH Free channels we need not spend much. Only thing which you have to check, how many channels that set top box can be stored. Another thing, check whether the dish antenna is rust proof. Some of the antennas after 2 or 3 months, get rusted.

Dear Anant,
Check the following details before making a decision.
1) How many Channels the STB can store at a time ?
2) Is there provision for connecting the STB with external speakers/Home theatre system, etc ? (if you are not satisfied with TV audio system)
3) Whether the dish antenna is coated with rust proof paint.
4) Guarantee/Warranty for STB ? If the motherboard goes faulty, whether they will replace it without any cost ? For Calvin STB they give 1 Year guarantee. Price Rs.2500/-
STB are available for Rs.1500/- also at Coimbatore, but with 6 months warranty. (you have to pay for the parts, if there is a problem)
Only these things you have to ensure.

Well

Sorry you cannot use a Beetel satellite stb to change the channels on anything other than a satellite tranmission. The other thing you mention is a forbidden subject on this forum, or have you not read the rules.

Hi Topper

Thanks for the reply. But I'm sorry, I didn't get you. I don't know what is formiddable in my post. What i want to know is, I'm subscribed to cable TV. The serive provider gives some 100+ channels, my TV is a old model one it has only 8channels available beyond this i have to retune of my channels. also it can accept only RF input alone. so i can't use even a DVD player. My service provider asked me to replace the TV. but I'm not convinced in his reply as the TV is good and my mother used to watch it.

Now instead of buying TV to fix the RF and channel problem, i just think if i can use a beetel STB or any STB and have DVD player hooked to the video input and cable wire to the antennae input and connect the RF OUT of the receiver to the RFIn of the TV so that i can use a DVD player, i can watch TV, I can scroll channels with my STB remote. It serves for all purposes and i don't have to change my TV.

Discussing about cable TV is forbidden, this forum is for sat TV only.

Next You cannot use a Sat STB for viewing cable TV, they are meant for viewing sat channesl only.

What you need is Cable STB which used to be available few years ago, which could be connected to your RF input. Ask a Tv service person near you, if he can arrange for it or make one for you.

Replacing your Tv is good suggestion. As new TVs are more cheaper and have lots of facility.

Hi r_m_radha, satdon, member91040

Thanks for the reply. The TV what Im using is good except it has only RF and has got 8channels alone, picture clarity is good comparable to Sony. Also my mom alone uses it. I stick to my PC. I'm not interested in watching TV.

Well! lets get on, the beetel STB costs only 1500/- also in the back panel of the STB hosts the antennae IN where i can connect the cable Tv in. Also in future i have plans to migrate to DTH. in that case this can be useful. A STB can accept input from LNB, Antennae and DVD input. In this im going to utilise the Antennae input. In our area only private DTH like Dish Tv and TATA sky is popular and 1/100 dealers has STB for free DTH. this is what is the problem is?

does any have any STB manuals.

Every receiver has that option Antenna In. Soo there would be no problem in any other stb tooo. Get a beetel for trail purpose and try it. You will be sure happy. And let us know.

I tried to hook up the receiver. its Eurobox 9000. It has a RF out with ANT In. I hooked the coaxial cable to the ANT IN and plugged the RF TV out to the TV out. when i switched ON the TV, to my surprise the reciever simply bypasses it. I can see all channels but the receiver has no control over it. i can switch the channels only from the TV. when ever you switch ON the receiver you will get a logo screen in the TV. Even that is not there. Then i started tuning the TV. nop it doesn't work. So i give it up.

for your reply. I know currently a basic 21" SONY will cost 10k. Our ONIDA TV is more than 15years OLD. But its working fine. The picture and sound quality is good. Its used mainly by my mother to watch in her spare time. I will watch it twice in a month when ever i go there. I use my PC.

I have a doubt. If some one can answer for that i will be happy. forgive me if its out of our rules. My Eurobox has 2CL clots. Can i use a card from TATA Sky or Dish TV to it. bcos the existing receiver provided by dish TV will work only for dish Tv and you can't add any TP to it manually. so if you cancel Dish TV then its useless.

One can create a back up of the smart card provided by the dish Tv or TATA Sky. you can create a another one of same kind with the RS 232 port available in it. Even if you can change the S/N of the STB in the software then its too good. Do any one have any idea abt this. Just on curiosity im asking this. i'm not going to try.

Hi jinx1985

Are you sure with the price of beetel STB, I can say pls check it again, it costs less than 1500.

Also for C & Ku band joint reception, i would suggest you to go for a bigger dish with min 6feet. the bigger the dish better will be the reception. Also make sure the dish what you purchase is make of galvanised material. Generally its better you apply a double coat paint to prevent rusting. this will also save your LNB and make sure the dish is properly grounded to avoid lightning.
