My System: Kabel BW | First of all we should clear up that there are 2 Nova bouquets: Nova Hellas and Nova Cyprus. Each can be officially subscribed only in its home country and carries only its national channels. In case of Nova Cyprus this means that there are no greek major TV stations like ET1/NET/ET3/MEGA/ANT1/ALPHA/STAR/ALTER/SKAI available and (therefore ?) is a little cheaper. From Sep 10th there are sub bouquets available starting with 27.50€ per month up to 45.70€. But there are cypriotic channels that are only available in Athina Sat bouquet like Lumière TV (LTV), Alfa Cyprus, Extra Lemesos. On the other hand Nova Cyprus carries Sigma Sports 1 and Super Sport Cyprus time shared and FilmNet Cyprus as well. For Nova Hellas the current situation looks like this: There are NO sub bouquets and the price once again has risen to now 57€ per month. The inner greek TV Stations i mentioned above can be received but not the cypriotic ones. There is no possibility for greek citizens paying TV fees in getting crippled cards that only open the national TV stations ET1/NET/ET3. Many people complain about the high compression and thus bad quality compared to clear terrestrial reception if this also isn't feeded by Nova as well. Nobody should watch big bigger screens than 37", you might get a headache after a while. Unfortunately there is no big improvement in sight because of the still high amount of subscriptions from cafés, hotels, bars, sport enthusiasts and people that just cannot get a clear terrestrial signal inside Greece but also from outside Greece living people that have no other choice than the few FTA channels to get in touch with their homeland. A big amount of those people is living in Europe including Cyprus but some also in Egypt and the Near East. Officially it's not allowed to export any equipment, neither the card nor the receiver of which there is one model that allows sharing inside the house with extra costs. But nobody cares since they make a big profit since the change to Irdeto 2 in 1999 (?). Both Nova companies are part of the Multichoice "imperium" and have as far as i know the highest prices for what they offer compared to Multichoice South Africa and Africa. And closing with this: The greek parliament channel is written in greek ΒΟΥΛΗ which should be transformed to latin writing in Vouli.

My System: Kabel BW | So the listings are almost complete. 5 genre-specific radio stations of Mad Music are missing which i list here: Hits GR Lounge TV Ellinika Agapimena Rebetiko Elliniko Rock I am not sure if these days any other receiver than those of Nova can decode them. Maybe a dreambox. And the other question is if a Nova Cyprus subscription has also access to all above listed Radio stations as well. If anybody knows more please let us know. And closing with this: I would change "SKY" to "SKAI" which suits better to the greek writing ΣΚΑΪ.

My System: Kabel BW | I am not sure if it's the worst over all bouquets. There are also romanian and bulgarian bouquets with many stations in one frequency so i suppose it's the same or even worse BUT the main difference is their very low cost instead of these greedy monopolists. But nobody is forced to take it. If more people would boycot it, they would have to lower prices and start sub bouquets. As long as the mass doesn't care of course they get richer and richer without offering any service at all.

Hurray!! | The trouble with all these package providers is that they give you many channels but they downgrade the video and audio signals so that they all fit into their allocated tp. Please take a look at this thread: Nova Satellite System I have since then installed a bitrate monitor and I can now check the quality of a channel just by reading the numbers. The reason why Nova is so popular is that they put a higher bitrate into the sports channel at the expense of the rest of the channels. If more viewers demand a better quality bitrate for the channels, then the providers might listen. But since such info need to collected and published, viewers don't know what they are getting since they don't have a quantitative measure of what they see. I suggested to Lyngsat to add such info in their channel lists, but they didn't reply.

My System: Kabel BW | Bitrate monitor ? You surely mean something like this here: http://www.linowsat.de/mainpage.html or whatever the TS Reader shows analyzing a certain frequency, right ? Just to have an idea what better quality means especially in Greece: A noise free non interfering picture with neighbour frequencies or transmitters. In many regions you can get on one frequency different channels just because the band regulation is ridiculous and a lot (rich) pirates do what they want destroying the signal even of the state channels. Then it is a fact that in areas near to the border to FYROM and Turkey many channels are beeing sweeped off because of their extreme signal strength. There are no regulations. Just as an example: The FYROM channels MTB1+2 can be received up to 150km south of the border and some turkish channels reach Attica peninsula that is 300km+ away !! So, this is what they do: Offer a "clear" picture without interference. Sound ? What is that ? HD ? On another planet probably but not under hellenic skies...

Hurray!! | Yes. This is what I would like Lyngsat to show for every channel. The bitrate monitor is a plugin that one can install in the Dreambox and then checkout the values for each channel. SRG has an excellent bitrate of ~ 6000kb/s and this is the reason why the picture looks very sharp and the colours just fantastic.

My System: Kabel BW | I agree. Although i'm getting SF1/2 over DVB-C the picture is crystal clear. Wish there would be less stations but with quality content, picture and sound available to everybody worldwide. In some years this will be normal over IP TV.

Hurray!! | Just like Sky UK and any other foreign package like TPS, Canal Satellite, Showtime, Arabesque, etc. There is a "black Market" whereby smartcards can be sold with a high rip of factor of 50%-300% It would not be wise to use it commercially in public places like pubs. So tell your locals to be careful. Some countries allow their nationals overseas to subscribe to their national package, on a personal use only, like SRG (Switzerland), but I am not sure about Greece.

My System: Kabel BW | Multichoice Hellas on the one hand does not sell subscriptions outside Greece but they make a lot of profit of Greeks having it in Europe or the Middle East. Almost all use an address of a relative/friend in Greece. MC forbids the export of the card but who can control this ? I haven't heared of any case that a card was disactivated just because it wasn't used inside GR. But showing it in a public area is different. I wouldn't dare to do this.

BTW, I heard some scary stories few years ago that if a tourist leaves the country and they search him and find a Nova smartcard on him, he either goes to prison or is fined a lot of money.
