My System: 75e-75w C & KU, 36v h-h /36v & diseqc actuators / diseqc -USALS motors / Anlg to HD Channel Masters C120s dishes, stb's inc echo3000, lnbs, meters, custom polar mounts & elevation/incline actuator conversions...

How much signal drop is there % wise..

almost zero, but C band LNB and cheap diseqc do their wrong thing - for example when I tune to yamal at supermax, at skystar, I loose lower part of ku band at hotbird. When I tune at yamal using skystar, express am1 at globo gets lost. This is due to fact, that diseqcs not equipped with back voltage protection diodes. Will add them manually soon, as will move this switches to bigger box.

Good morning BombedOne,

..thanks for that detailed reply..

We always expect a drop with diseqc switching and factor in a bigger dish or just use on satellites that are already strong here anyway, usually the insertion loss equates to about 5-10% of the original signal.

So... what is a good make in diseqc switches that gives minimum loss then?

Cheers.. Pedro.

A signal loss in dBuV would be more accurate than a 5-10%

It should be, but I trust claimed typical insertion loss figures for diseqc switches as much as claimed LNB noise figures, so I avoid quoting them.

For my personal experience I can say, that C band LNB is more sensitive to Diseqc losses than ku band. For example, at Yamal 201, after using diseqc - I lost about 30% of transponders. Levels on existing get lower by about 5-10%. But if I put In-line amplifier to C band LNB, BEFORE Diseqc, than that loss is neutralised. With Ku band, I never seen more than 2-3% loss with any of diseqc (I use cheap ones - $2 to $6 per 4x1 diseqc).
