Muddywellies' installation

Here are a few pics of my first DIY satellite installation.

The first view is a general view of my gable wall facing due south. The reference set up sat was Atlantic Bird at 5W.

I'm rather nervous at any height above terra firma so 8mm rawl bolt hooks were used to secure the ladder using steel wire - seen on the 4th rung down - the bolt were left in the wall for future use.

Second shot is a close up shot of the wiring with the four dish bolts shortened to prevent the cables being pulled out when traversing. Electrical insulating tape is used to reinforce the water resistance properties of the ill-fitting rubber grommets until I visit an electrical supplier for amalgamating tape.

Third image image is another close -up.

Nice work muddy

Just one question though, Whats the antenna to the left of the dish for? I've seen them installed in a few supermarkets locally and always wondered what they were for.

The only reason I ask is because, as I mentioned. I've only seen them installed in local shops/supermarkets and cant see why they would bother doing it. The national and local stations can be picked up easily without a special antenna.

Sorry for going off topic Muddy, I'll leave it at that

Thanks everyone for your comments.

I've had a number of positive comments about the look of the dish from visitors.

As already mentioned it's just a simple FM aerial, without it we could not receive any signal. (I'm something of a HiFi nut). We can't use a mobile phone in the house for the same reason.

The house insulation has been upgraded in many parts and now consists of a 'metalic' side to reflect heat back inside which is also a very effective barrier to any signal.
