Talking DoktorOfSat SETUP

Hello everybody!

My name is DoktorOfSat .I'm from Romania.I'm a moderator on the bigest forum from Ro on the satellite section , very active also on the hungarian board and 2 german boards.I like very much this board too and I found many interesting info , so I decided to sign up here.You can read my reports on flysat too
After many years in Ku band(analog too) , this year I decided to "play" with C band too.
At the begining of summer I got a noname but very good quality Al 150 cm PFA dish with f/d ratio of 0,42 .My dish has a good homemade polarmount and a 18" HARL actuator(as in photo).I can receive satellites between 93,5East -22West with this system!I also like to make depolarizer plates for (L,R) in C band of course.During outdoor testing I use an HOHER portable DVD player with A/V in and a Kaon 570 receiver .In the photo you can see Ariana afgan television from 93,5East, outdoor picture!An MTI 15kelvin Cband LNB is my favourite now,after certain tests .
I upload some picture with the dish pointed on several satellites.My favourite C band sats are: 90E, 83E, 64E, 49E, 5W, 22W.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Very interesting installation!

I am envious

And your English is excellent - I don't know even one word of Romanian

Thanks a lot Tivu.

The story of this dish is quite fascinating.A couple of months ago the dish was not motorised .I use it for the reception of Nilesat , a problematic sat here in the north of Ro .
After that , one day I decided to test the West Asia beam of Intelsat 904 .There are two good channels: Kanal 31 and Jetisu.But with no results at all.After that I tested 36E with very good results on the Russian beam (with circular polar L,R) got all the tp !!!After that I made the polarmount and I pointed the dish on Astra 28,2E.And I managed to get Astra 2D !!!

Stable reception in fine weather but no picture when the clouds appear.Further testing in rainy weather and I noticed that the signal is low but stable!So i can say that in my region the reception of astra 2d is possible with larger dishes 1,8m I think in almoust all weather conditions.I watch the channels for some day but I was not so impressed.
Here are the photos with the dish pointed on Astra 2d , pictures on the channels from it.I used an Inverto flange 0,3db LNB

U just can add "tul", "oare", "ea" to any english word at end, and it'll become romanian

for example: "satelitul receptoare instalatea"

Here is my motorised (with Strong DM2100) OPTICUM 125 cm solid dish .I got satellites between 80East <<>> 34,5 West with this dish.

I tested a lot of LNB's but Laser Gold 0,3db proved to be the best for fringe receptions.I have a nice signal on 7W , but my very best receptions with this dish are from the east side.

1.The Middle East Spot 1 of Intelsat 902 @ 62 E 11555 v 27500 3/4 IRIB

2.The Spot 1 of Intelsat 702@ 66E Kazakhstan Aktau

Back again in C band problemo!!

I noticed that some users are interested in my dielectric plate for da C band

I upload a schematic of it.I recommend to use aluminium foil from chocolate .This proved to perform very well among other Al foils...

Use only transparent plastic , the 1 mm thick one is the best in my tests.Everything between 0,5-1MM is good
The width of the alu stripes must be 3,5-4mm .Please respect the dimensions

The distance betwwen stripes is 5-6mm The big stripes(3 on the center) 10mm width are very important for the reception.

You can modify a little bit the dimensions and notice signal increases on certain channels ...Go further and put perpendiculary 1mm thick cooper wire spiral (4-5 little spirals) an the each side and you'll notice real frequency cuts and strong amplification one other freq.A lot of play with

Hello Pipino

Here in ro there are a few interested in C band and it's very hard2find a C band lnb too

not like in other countries like hungary , germany where are a lot of c bandits

AV-COMM waveguide oh my God ..see it on da german board and on youtube it's very expensive for me .The dialectric is very good pipino sometime amplify from 0 to 60-70% on my kaon
maybe in the future I 'll motorise it

pipino

my opinion is that the dish size (and it's f/d ratio) is the key for a better reception in C band

In the video the AV-COMM waveguide was on a offset dish.The offset dishes are not so good for C band .

I don't think AV-COMM waveguide performs better then my dielectric

pipino if you have a liitle speartime make a plate and tell us your opinion about

the av polarizer needs a lot of adjustment,until it works good,i tested one 2 month ago on my other dish for cband irte 1,86m and it works very bad,this year i will install it on my 2,30mesh,on 68,5 it works good then!
the motor solution is very good,but not cheap with 350€ a friend in germany have bought this and confirmed me that he have good signal in the east on circular,but on linar ,signal is lower then without on the western satellite,currencly we dont know the reason!
how it looks,that this polareizer,only works good,when the adjsutment depent on the antenna type,is very exactly,if not,the performance on my irte 1,86m dish was lower then without,in the first test,very strange this!
polareizer is optimeized for the panorama 13 kelvin lnb,that is a little bit smaler in diameter ,then the other brands!

iam using transparent tevlon material instead on normal dialektrikum plate,the choclate story,with the silver paper i hear the first time,you simple cover,silver paper,around the exisiting plate,and then it works better?

can someone explain again the technical prinzip of av com polarizer?
why the signal is so much stronger,after the polarity change?

@Turok

I use the plate only for the satellites with with L and R tp's.For the others I use the c band lnb "as it is" without any plates.
In fact, the plate transforms the L and R into V and H , in other words :
L=V

R=H
It'a a foolish thing to use the plate for satellites with linear polarization Tp's cause it reduce dramaticaly the signal
I give you just example:

On 83 East (sat with linear polar tp) only the DY365 channel works with the plate .If i took off it , I got something like 70 Tv chanels

68,5 is a very strange bird (in C band) indeed.With my MTI I can't get so much channels as with Inverto (photo).The inverto has only one pin. That means this lnb can get only one polarization .In order to get the other you must turn it 90 degress.But only on 68,5E in a certain position it get H and V polar at the same time , very strange isn't it?

This type of LNBF is most often used with a Chapperal feedhorn and a Polarizer. This is a servo motor that adjusts the polarity of the signal coming into the LNBF so the receiver tells the feedhorn which H or V to tune and the servo motor does the work. So the lnbf with one pin gets eather a H or V feed from the feedhorn.

I am not a complete idiot, some parts are missing.
