My System: Famaval 3,1, IP9000HD plus other FTA and Linux boxes - Astra 1&2, Hotbird, Hispasat
My setup in Benitachell

Here is my setup in Benitachell, a small town on the Costa Blanca, Spain.
The first picture is of my three rooftop dishes. Fron left to right, a 1m elliptical with offset LNBs pointing at Astra 1 and Hotbird. Next, and installed by ViaDigital cowboys on my terrestrial aerial pole, a 60cm pointing at Hispasat, then a 1m with twin LNB pointing at Astra 2/Eurobird.

The second picture is of the front of my 2,4m dish pointed at Astra 2 / Eurobird, and needed to get the weak signals from Astra 2D. It has an Invacom quad LNB.

The third picture is of the rear of the 2,4m dish, showing the guy ropes which help in stabilising it during high winds.

The fourth shows the 4 cables from that dish being taken through trunking to protect them from the ravages of the Spanish weather and to enable them to be buried underground if necessary.

Finally, the two equipment in my living room. A NAD amplifier, Nakamichi cassette recorder, Pace DS430N and Thomson DS4210 Digiboxes. On the other side, a modified (external hard disk, sitting on the top) Pace 3100 Sky + box, Philips S-VHS recorder, Humax F1-Fox receiver and Philips DVD player.

The Humax deals with the Hotbird, Astra 1 and Hispasat downleads by means of a DisecQ switch. The Thomson has an input from the small Sky dish; the DS430N has one, and the Sky + two, inputs from the 2,4m dish. The TV is a Philips Matchline 32" widescreen.

The remaining Sky downleads go to into my music room come workshop, where I have other digiboxes in varying states of repair as well as a much loved and never-to-be-replaced hi-fi system based around a Quad 44 / 606 with Rogers LS3a speakers.

My System: ADSL 1 Meg., SKY HD (Thomson DSI8215WD), Sky+ 160, TDT (Spanish freeview)
Thumbs down What not to do

These pictures are of my recently " professionally" installed system in Gran Canaria. We are 2,400 miles south of the official ASTRA 2D footprint, so as you can imagine getting it "right" is pretty crucial.

So - what NOT to do:

1. Do not put the dish where there is a large metal object such as a high gain TV ariel and mast in line of site to the satellite.

2. Do not use single output LNB for SKY+ installation and never come back to change it.

3. Do not use 0.5db LNB designed for local CANAL+ service when a high performing LNB for fringe reception is needed.

4. Do not position dish so that it overhangs a neighbours property resulting in the dish having to be moved (but never bother to come back to move it).

I will not name and shame the installer in this public forum, however anyone looking for an installer in Gran Canaria should pm me for advice!!

Yep. Those pictures were taken today. Fortunately I managed to withold some of the money - enough to pay someone to move the dish. I have ordered an INVACOM 0.3db Quad LNB which I am hoping will arrive Monday.

Even with the setup as it is we get some BBC1s and some ITVs during the day and quite a lot of other 2D and North beam channels.

How much difference do you think the TV antenna will be making to my signal?

From it's position I'd say not a lot but maybe Rolf will have a more professional view.

I don't think that the UHF antenna will make much difference, unless of course it was bang in the line of sight.

To Billnot

(The third picture is of the rear of the 2,4m dish, showing the guy ropes which help in stabilising it during high winds.)

Is it me or is there something missing from the back of your dish?No wonder you need guy ropes. There are hundreds of those 2.4m famavals here in Cyprus, but there should be something like a crossbar across the back ring with a stabilsing bar connecting it to the mount to stop it falling over to the left or right. Are they all installed like that over there?
Ps how much do they charge for a 2.4m dish installation?

Only the polarmount has the crossbar, the fixed mount is as seen above according to their site.

You got that photo in pretty quick Rolfy.Yeah, thats the dish we have over here but with a metal bar(sometimes a threaded rod for adjusting) instead of a motor.in fact most prime focus dishes over here are polarmount with metal bars.Maybe they are more stable than Billnots' dish.I have seen fixings similar to Billnots guy ropes but only on 2.4 dishes with extensions fitted.

Most of the 2,4m dishes here on the CB are like mine but without the guy ropes - the installer is proud of those as his professional trademark!

To be fair, the dish has stayed aligned during the last week even though we have had 100kph winds.

Hey Rob, how do you manage to get any drinking done with all that computer stuff to get in your way?
Time for a wall mounted monitor (which hinges to ceiling mounted as the day wears on, or the Vodka runs out)
I'm only jealous really, ran out of it here

I came over a nice site where they have listed all large dish installs they have done in Italy, some really nice dishes in there.
