Smart MX 95 OTA Update? Receiving C5 in Spain?

Hi all, I'm new here. I'm in Spain with some limited reception via a big dish, but can get Astra 1, 2, Eurobird, and some others.

1) I have the Smart MX 95 HD digital receiver and want to perform an over-the-air update, but unfortunately when I use the default Astra 1 satellite frequency and symbol rate (12441, 27500, V) it times out with 'operation aborted'. Any ideas what other frequencies I can try?

2) I am trying to get Channel Five (UK) also. I cannot receive the encrypted Sky versions as I a not using the Sky box and the Sky card doesn't work in this box. I have tried the Freesat frequency for Five, but due to a limitation in the resort I share the dish with, nobody can receive that one. Are there any other ways via this Sat box?

Many thanks guys 'n' gals!

1. are you sure that 12441 is the correct frequency for SMART's OTA download? (not too sure what you mean by "the default Astra 1 satellite frequency and symbol rate (12441, 27500, V)!" are you certain that there is an OTA download available for your box...? have you looked at the manufacturuers website? is there an manual OTA option available in your boxes menu system?

2. No.If you cannot get the free version of Five on your Smart box due to dish size / community cableing issues, and as it does not accept a sky card to get the sky version of Five, then you cannot get FIVE on this box at all.

I think the point is that 12441 is NOT the correct frequency, and YES I can change the frequency and satellite itself - so I am asking here for any suggested settings to try that are known to carry OTA updates, as there is zero info on the Smart website and they are not replying to emails as yet.

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Any ota update for that receiver is extremely unlikely to be carried on 28E.

Try 13E & 19E.

Theres also a good chance that any ota update is either

1) intermittent or
2) no longer carried on satellite.

Thanks - here are my options (I'm not sure about what your settings relate to):

Satellite: Astra 1 / 2 / Eurobird
Frequency:
Symbol Rate:
Polarity:

Any ideas what to fill in each?

How are you achieving that, do you have monobloc lnb's multiple lnb's or are you motorised (which I doubt)?

A satellite receiver will only receive signals from one satellite at a time unless one of the above applies thus Astra 1 and Astra 2 are not getable as they are in differnt locations on the Clarke Curve. The different satellites re-use the same frequencies and SR and FEC details across the arc, hence I suspect the confusion currently taking place. What makes you think there are OTA updates for your stb?

I am on a resort with a large dish(es) which can receive the above satellites.

I believe there is OTA only because the option appears within the box's menus. That led me to believe the option would not be there if it did not exist.

most of their newer models they say update via the software on their site...i could not see anything in one of the manuals about OTA updates...although my german is not 100%
it may well be that there is no updates available for your model, and the option was put in place "just in case".

My stb has the same option in the menu but nothing happens because they do not transmit them OTA anymore

My Echostar IP3000VA has the smame option. OTA updates for that one were discontinued about 5 years ago!
